“Behold, you will conceive in your womb, and give birth to a son, and will call his name ‘Jesus.’” (Luke‬ ‭1:31‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The naming of Jesus, or the original Hebrew name, Yeshua, is very significant.

It instantly unlocks many parts of the Old Testament. It is like a big clue that allows you to solve many pieces of God’s jigsaw puzzle.

For example, consider the following verse:

“Behold, Yahweh has proclaimed to the end of the earth, “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your salvation comes. Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.’”” (Isaiah‬ ‭62:11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The word translated as “salvation” in the verse above is actually “Yeshua” in the original Hebrew.

So the verse is actually talking about Jesus. Suddenly, we understand that Isaiah’s prophecies about “salvation” and “righteousness” coming to Israel is actually referring to Jesus.

Jesus is the righteousness of God. He did no sin, knew no sin and in Him is no sin. He is the embodiment of divine righteousness.

““Behold, I come quickly. My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work.” (Revelation‬ ‭22:12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

It is the same. Jesus identifies Himself as the “salvation” that Isaiah prophesied about.

Yes, Jesus will come again, and there will be a day where we will be rewarded for all the good works we have done for His sake.

Precursor (n)

Bạn có thể dụng từ này để nói về tiền thân của một thứ gì đó mà sau này còn được phát triển hơn nữa, hoặc để đưa ra nguyên nhân dẫn tới kết quả nào đó.

Trong bài thi Speaking, bạn có thể được hỏi về các lĩnh vực học tập, nghiên cứu của mình, hoặc các môn học mà bạn yêu thích. Khi đó, bạn có thể sử dụng từ « precursor » theo cách sau:

My interest in geography was the precursor to my studies in cartography.

Trong bài thi Writing Task 2, bạn có thể dùng “precursor” để diễn tả trình tự logic, hoặc sự ảnh hưởng của nhân tố này đến sự kiện khác. Chẳng hạn với một đề bài nói về sự quan trọng của kinh nghiệm hoặc trình độ giáo dục đến sự phát triển nghề nghiệp của một người:

Catalyze (v)

Động từ này có nghĩa là gây xúc tác, là nguyên nhân dẫn tới sự thay đổi nào đó. Sử dụng động từ này có thể thay thế cho các từ như ‘cause’, ‘lead to’, ‘connect to,’

Ngoài việc dùng catalyze ở dạng động từ, bạn cũng có thể dùng dạng danh từ của nó với nghĩa như là một nhân tố thúc đẩy, chất xúc tác,… trong cụm từ acts as a catalyst.

Trong phần thi Speaking Part 1, khi được hỏi về nghề nghiệp, bạn có thể sử dụng động từ này như sau:

The people I meet at business networking evenings in my city often catalyze professional opportunities.

Trong bài Writing Task 2 với đề bài về tác động của việc mặc đồng phục với các học sinh, bạn có thể sử dụngcatalyze như ví dụ sau:

Firstly, uniforms catalyze (act as a catalyst for) better classroom behaviour among students.

Linear (adj)
Trong phần Speaking Part 1, khi được hỏi về kế hoạch tương lai, bạn có thể sử dụng từ linear để miêu tả kế hoạch của bạn không có nhiều biến động, đã được vạch sẵn và bạn chỉ cần đi theo con đường đó, chẳng hạn:

My plans for the future are fairly linear. I’m completing my undergraduate degree now and intend to follow this with a mater’s. Education is, therefore, in my foreseeable future.

Trong Writing Task 1, bạn có thể dùng linear để miêu tả một đường thẳng trong biểu đồ diễn tả xu hướng phát triển khá chắc chắn và gần như không thay đổi:

The trend depicted between the months of February and June shows linear growth from 20% to 75%.

Correlate / Correlation

Động từ correlate dùng để miêu tả mối quan hệ giữa hai sự vật, sự việc hoặc hai sự vật đó phát triển cùng chiều.

Trong bài Speaking Part 1, khi được hỏi về những người thân trong gia đình, chẳng hạn về chị gái, và bạn muốn nói tới thành công trong công việc của chị đã ảnh hưởng thế nào tới bạn:

Actually, the carreer progression of my sister positively correlates with mine. After she left our hometown, she also experienced a significant growth in employment opportunities.

Trong bài writing task 1, để diễn tả mối quan hệ nghịch chiều giữa các yếu tố, bạn có thể sử dụng cụm từ negatively correlated, chẳng hạn:

The rise in automobile prices in 2008 is negatively correlated with automobile sales for the same year.

Avenue

Ví dụ nếu trong Speaking Part 2 hỏi về một người có ảnh hưởng tới cuộc sống của bạn:

My father encouraged me to study languages, and this has opened up certain avenues for friendship I would no have otherwise had. For example, I have several close Japanese-speaking friends.

Cụm từ open up certain avenues được sử dụng ở đây để nói lên các cơ hội mới được mở ra để kết bạn khi bạn học ngoại ngữ.

Firstly, studying a foreign language opens avenues for employment. For instance,…

Afford (v)

Afford trong trường hợp này có nghĩa là tạo ra hoặc cung cấp cho ai cơ hội đạt được điều gì.



Chẳng hạn, giám khảo bài speaking có thể hỏi bạn vì sao bạn đi du học. Câu trả lời có thể là:

My university grades afforded me the opportunity to study abroad.

Ngoài ra, với đề bài liên quan tới việc xóa đói giảm nghèo trong phần writing part 2, một ví dụ có thể sử dụng từafford là:

For example, the Chinese economic system has afforded the PRC unprecedented financial growth over the past three decades.

Actionable (adj)

Actionable có thể dùng như một từ để nói về một ý kiến, lời khuyên hay thông tin nào đó có giá trị thực tế, có tính khả thi,…

Khi bài speaking đề cập tới người có ảnh hưởng tới cuộc đời của bạn, bạn có thể đưa ra câu trả lời như sau:

My unversity professor gave me several actionable pieces of advice. But most noteworthy was his suggestion that I focus my studies on North African history, as I was both interested in it and am of Tunisian ancestry.

Với bài Writing task 2 nói về mối quan hệ giữa giáo dục và sự nghiệp

Firstly, the actionable nature of the skills learned at university is clear. For instance, humanities programs like philosophy, English literature and history push students to exhibit logical progression in their thinking and writing. As these organized thought patterns are often the basis of success in business, it is clear that a link exists between the skills learned at university and the ability one has to accomplish a professional goal.

Embody (v)

Theo nghĩa tiếng Việt có thể hiểu embody dùng để chỉ những người, vật là ví dụ minh họa cụ thể, một điển hình cho điều gì đó.

Chẳng hạn, trong bài speaking khi miêu tả về bố mẹ. Bạn có thể dùng câu sau:

My father is an embodiment of a traditional military upbringing. He does everything by routine.

Hoặc khi nhắc tới những ảnh hưởng của tiến bộ của khoa học công nghệ tới giáo dục trong bài writing task 2, bạn có thể dùng embody để đưa ra một ví dụ minh họa.

Firstly, technology in the classroom has undeniable links to academic performance. The use of tablets in Korean classrooms embodies this idea perfectly.

Fortify (v)

Làm cho thứ gì đó mạnh hơn.

Chẳng hạn, với bài speaking:

I’m taking courses in the evening after work to fortify my professional skills.

Fortify cũng có thể dùng để khẳng định lại một lần nữa những ý đã nói ở trước đó một cách thuyết phục:

Thus, the fact that successful attempts are being made by other developing countries to replicate China’s growth fortifies the argument that the Chinese economic model is one that accelerates the elimination of poverty in undeveloped nations.
