「這些作品的圖片來源，選自我多年拍攝積累的照片，它們閒置在那裡，成為捨不得丟掉的『雞肋』。於是我像一個外科醫生一樣對這些照片做起了手術，根據每張照片本身，我採用不同的方法——刻畫、打磨、捲曲或與其它物體結合做成攝影裝置等等。我極盡各種手段，挽救這些圖像，並賦予它們新的意義。這些照片都是手工印製，我反覆觀看，找到並發掘它們內在所隱藏的戲劇性結構，甚至另一個空間，這樣的創作模糊了對圖像的觸摸體驗與認知體驗之間的界限，嘗試擴展了一張照片的外延，甚至營造一種繪畫性的假象。通過強調圖像形式上的屬性，通過展現質疑圖像與觀看關係的方式，創作了逃脫指向關係的圖片，當圖像變成一個純粹的物體時，圖片也就成為了一個有形的場所。」——蔡東東

蔡東東，1978年出生於甘肅天水，1996年入伍， 2002年就學於北京電影學院，目前生活工作於北京。蔡東東的作品曾參與多項展覽並發表於各類藝術書刊，包括《藝術界》、《藝術時代》、《攝影之聲》等。他於2010年獲得義大利「第三屆特爾納（Terna）當代藝術獎」一等獎；2011年參加義大利UNIDEE藝術基金會駐留項目；2014年獲選南方報業集團《ART289》雜誌年度新勢力；2015年獲得TOP20中國攝影新銳獎。

"These works were sourced from my photos taken in these years. They were piled up like chicken ribs, so I operated on them, like a surgeon. I applied various methods according to different pictures: engraving, rubbing, curling, or making a photography installation with other objects. I tried all I can do to save these pictures by giving them new meanings. Each picture is printed by hand. I look them over and over to explore their inner dramatic structures, or even another space. This creation blurs the boundary between a photo's touch experience and cognitive experience. The photo's dimension was extended. You may mistake the picture for a painting. I focus on expressing the image's quality of form and questioning the method of seeing it. In this way some photos escaped from its original directing relationship. When the image is regarded as a pure object, the print becomes a tangible place."——Cai Dongdong

Cai Dongdong, born in Tainshui Ganshu in 1978. He enlisted in 1996 and studied at Beijing Flim Academy in 2002. Now he lives and works in Beijing. Cia's work have been exhibited in many countries or cities, including New York, Germany, France. His works have been published in several magazines or books like LEAP, ART TIME, and Voices of Photography. He was awarded the first price of the 3rd premio Terna prize in 2010. In 2011, he arrended the UNIDEE's residency project. He was also awarded as "New Power 2014" by the magazines ART289, and awarded as TOP 20 of Chinese New Photo Award in 2015.
