This past year’s global situation has allowed me to fully revisit the tennis world and coach regularly again.

It has been a decade since I have worked with such an expansive pool of students. At the time, I taught and trained both children and adults ranging from the ages of 5-60, levels ranging from novice to advanced, but mostly children and teenagers.

However, a couple of years ago I did take a hiatus from showbiz and acting in China as I had the opportunity to work and travel with a professional tennis player. It was a very rewarding, yet challenging experience, to say the least.

Many people have asked me why I do not just coach and train players completely full time. I usually just smile and and brush it off with a tactful “I don’t know.”

The truth is, I have had an extreme love-hate relationship with the game.

Growing up, the time spent on court not only acted as a healthy environment where I can progress as a player and a person, but it also acted as an escape from the difficult emotional and psychological roller coaster on the home front (I will not go into this now).

Looking back, I am so grateful to have been surrounded by coaches, from places such as India and Eastern Europe, whom understood the value of teaching and mentoring with a “school of hard knocks’ approach. They continuously reminded me that:

“There will always be people in situations worse off than you. Back home, players were playing on courts made from cow dung and with holes in their shoes, not to mention wondering when their next full meal would be.”

Though I don’t think I can honestly say that I fully understood them at the time, but these reminders and perspectives acted as the rock that kept me from drifting away.

So, this is where I am coming from in terms of my relationship with tennis. 2020 has been a blessing in disguise, as I have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people, both on and off the court.

【もう、人として生きていくことはできない】

昨日、スタートしたクラウドファンディング「西野亮廣×鴨頭嘉人コラボ講演 ~夢とエンタメで世界を変えていこう~」が、プロジェクト立ち上げから７時間４４分で、目標金額の２０００万円を突破しました。

知らない方の為に、このプロジェクトの概要をあらためて御説明させていただきます。

こちらは、YouTube講演家の鴨頭嘉人さんとチーム鴨頭の皆さんが仕掛けてくださった、言わば「西野亮廣応援企画」でして……僕と鴨頭さんのコラボ講演を、なんと3週間後に東京国際フォーラムでおこなうのですが、なんとなんと、その収益を全額、映画『えんとつ町のプペル』のチケットの購入代金にあてて、そのチケットを子供達にプレゼントしてくださるというのです。
もう、とんでもない規模の支援なんです。



昨日は丸一日、映画のアフレコ収録がありまして、その合間合間でスマホをチラチラと見ながら、今回のクラファンの動きを追わせていただいたのですが……Twitterのタイムラインを見ると、チーム鴨頭の皆さんが一丸となって、「行け〜！」といった感じで、応援してくださっているんです。

もう一度言いますが、これは自分達の為にやっているわけではなくて、動機は「今回は西野亮廣を勝たせる」の一点なんです。


本当はお一人お一人に会いに行って、キチンを御礼しなきゃいけないところなのですが、映画制作が佳境に入っていて、今はどうしても現場を離れられなくて……なので心の中で「ありがとうございます」と言って、スマホを閉じ、また映画制作に戻りました。

今、チーム鴨頭の皆さんをはじめ、本当にたくさんの人が映画『えんとつ町のプペル』を、そして『西野亮廣』を応援してくださっています。

昨日もお話ししたのですが、今年は皆大変です。
１００年に一度のウイルスに襲われて、僕らは今日も溺れそうになりながら、その乗り越え方を探している。
皆、不安で不安で仕方ないと思うんです。
自分のことでやらなくちゃいけないことがまだまだある。

そんな中、僕の挑戦にその大切な時間を分けてくれて、「西野、頑張れ〜」と言ってくださっている。


本当に本当にありがたいし、罪深いなぁと思っています。


よく、映画制作の現場で、監督が怒鳴り散らしてたりするじゃないですか？
…というか、監督って、なんか怒ってますよね？　
前にある椅子を蹴ってるイメージありません（笑）？


僕、身体がナヨナヨしているので、怒鳴ったり、モノに当たったりしても似合わないから、ああいう表現はしないのですが、
あの「怒り」は、すごくよく分かります。

これは、映画に限らず、リーダーと呼ばれる人や、経営者もそうだと思います。

「怒鳴りちらすのは人としてどうなんだ？」という真っ当なご意見もありますが(超わかるよ！)、しかし一方で、リーダーは、この背景、このセリフ、この音楽、このワンシーンを存在させる為に、どれだけの人が動いてくださったか、そして、動いてくださった方々の顔かを常に想像しています。
その人達が、どれだけのものを犠牲にしてくれたかを知っているんです。

僕はありがたいことに「一緒に働きたい」という声をよくいただいて、それこそサロン内で学生インターンを募集すると、毎回、一瞬で数百人の応募がくるんです。

でも、彼らに、よく言うんです。

「その程度の覚悟なら、僕に近寄って来ないでくれ。そのペースで走りたいのであれば、僕の隣なんかよりも、もっともっと居心地の良い場所がある」

僕はあなたの首根っこを掴まえて、「僕の隣で働け」とは絶対に言わないんですね。
「他所でやります」と言われても、一切引きとめない。どうぞどうぞ。

ただ、あなたの意思で、「西野の隣で働く」というのであれば、覚悟は決めて欲しい。

１０００時間かけようが、それがツマラナイものであれば、僕は１秒でゴミ箱に捨てます。
恨むのなら、好きなだけ恨んでもらって構いません。
ただし、恨む相手を間違っちゃいけない。

ここは「これだけ頑張ったのに」が通用する世界じゃない。
一番悪いのは、１０００時間かけているのにツマラナイものしか作れない自分です。
「恨むなら、自分の弱さを恨め」といったところです。


時々、僕は、見る人が見れば「血も涙もないような判断」をする場合があります。

それこそ、「これ、デモなんですけど」といってあげてきてくださった時に、それが、たとえ完成度でいうと１０%程度であろうが、そこには、その人が今回の仕事にかけている想い・姿勢が全部出るじゃないですか。

そこで、流れ作業のようなものを出してこられる方とは、もっというと血の匂いがしない方とは、僕、二度と仕事をしないんです。
もう二度と会わない。

理由は、その人が可愛そうだから。
ここは、そんな人が生きられる世界じゃない。

そして、何より、この背景、このセリフ、この音楽、このワンシーンを存在させる為に、どれだけの人が動いて、どれだけのお金が動いて、どれだけ人が、ここに立ちたくても立てなかったを知っているからです。

応援されればされるほど、現場では人としていられなくなって、鬼みたいになっちゃうんですけど、でも、ここは、そういう世界なので、それでいいと思っています。


この話を聞いて、「上等じゃねぇか」という方がいらっしゃいましたら、株式会社NISHINOのインターンを受けるか、もしくは、ウチの若手社員やインターン生から話を聞いて見てください。

本気でエンタメをやる気があるのであれば、この上ない環境であることは間違いないです。

ただ、「同い年で、せめて日本一ぐらいはとっとけよ。みっともねぇな」という領域での打ち合いになるので、参加されるのであれば、それぐらいの感じでお願いします。

なんじゃかんじゃで、すっかり徹夜になっちゃったのですが、今日はスタートが早くて、これからもうアフレコ収録です。

［因航雞卷］其實有冇人買架？可能機場員工？

TLDR：外賣有好多種（好心啦，千幾字要TL......）

1. 我鍾意經濟張相（https://bit.ly/2B6VEE0）！強調40蚊！咁當然真係算係「貼地價錢」（*）。之但係，你肯定係空中享受？都先唔好講坐經濟位或premium economy）肯定唔係享受（其實坐商務都唔係享受，頭等唔知，冇坐過）。而飛機餐呢下，肯定係最不愉快嘅體驗之一。

2. 「高盛的電梯」話齋，Unless you are flying first class international, never eat the food, period。轉成人話：長途頭等以外嘅嘢食，都唔係人食的。

3. Gordan Ramsay 雖然有份收航空公司錢畀意見設計菜式（唔通落手煮？），但一樣倒老闆米，佢話「打撚死我都唔會食飛機餐」（There’s no fucking way I eat on planes）

另一米芝蓮名廚Daniel Boulud厚道啲，話「我唔會食飛機餐，除非坐商務啦」—因為佢有幫法航商務艙設計，真係襟撈。

4. 我一度都企圖守呢個戒律，但還是意志太軟弱。但講真，而家都係盡量唔食，加上又去坐少咗長途機（嗯，好似6年冇去過歐洲），理論上可以的。重點唔係抵唔抵餓唔餓，唔好浪費quota嘛。

小魚兒完騎小小心得:
又是一個急急忙忙的早晨，抵達目的地沒多久就要出發了，早餐都沒來的急吃完，第一座的飛鳳山轉個彎就完成了，短短的3公里不到，一眨眼就結束了，陡坡來的又急又快，幸好剛開始精力十足，小抽一下就上山，第二座的大山背坡度就顯得柔和的多了，大約在5%6%左右，沿路幾乎沒有來車，順順的就完成了，雖然高度不高但是景色真的很美，風光明媚一覽無遺，還可以吃免費的綠豆湯，新竹真是個好地方，緊接著第三座的五指山坡度跟大山背的差不多，但是先前爬了兩座山體能有點消耗，慢慢覺得有點喘，玉皇宮的廟方有時候會提供免費的米粉湯或綠豆湯，今天則是綠豆湯，在一次的感謝廟方的體貼。

9453顧名思義就是"就是五山"，要爬五座山的意思，爬完了第三座山你以為騎一半了嗎?當然還沒阿!你想的美阿~第四座山才是真正的開始啊!前面只是暖身!!!暖身而以!!!時間也差不多該吃中餐了，五指山結束下滑到竹東萊爾富，補充剛剛消耗的能量，儲存新的能量，準備迎接下一個魔王挑戰"天湖"，五座山裡面我覺得最難最硬的一座山，雖然距離也沒有很長，但是途中有兩個20%的陡坡，不止陡還很長，因為不想牽車只能硬著頭皮踩上去，完全榨乾大腿的能量，最後的宇老是五座山裡面距離最長的，車流也是偏多的，上山的時間已經超過1點了，霧氣開始增加，溫度也慢慢下降，相較之下宇老的坡度比較和諧，只有最後面的100m比較陡，但因霧氣看不到坡頂，踩著踩著就到了。

本來以為要騎到天黑才能回家，幸好體能還沒有太差，太陽下山之前順利的回到起點(飛鳳門市7-11)。
