Good service can really make a person’s day, don’t you agree? That feeling of connecting to another human being and having someone help you solve a problem with their knowledge and expertise is quite something. It is wonderful to see good service being recognised by #SingaporeTourismAwards which celebrates the best in the tourism sector.

Spent some time with the recipient of the STA Customer Service Excellence Award, Juvy from Marina Bay Sands, and it was so invigorating just listening to her share about her passion for hospitality and wow, she does it with so much heart!

So, this is the story she shared; there was a seaman who was desperately looking for a Western Union bank to send money back to his mother because there was an emergency back home, but he only had an hour to do it before his ship left. It was a very busy day, the taxi queue was crazy long, so she told him that maybe he’d have to take the MRT. But as luck would have it, the queue to get a temporary card was also very long.

Without a second thought, she told him to give her a minute, she ran to her office, got her EZ-Link card which had her transport allowance for the month, and passed it to him!!! This was at a time where she was sending 3/4 of her paycheck to her family as well, which meant she had 1/4 of it left for all her living expenses and in that card was her entire transport allowance. She passed him the card and said, "If you can’t come back, it is ok, just make sure you send the money on time". She walked him all the way to the train, gave him directions to the Western Union bank in Chinatown and sent him on his way.

She spoke about how her brother was a seaman and he would send money back every time they docked. How when she was younger, whenever they had visitors at the house, her parents taught her to serve the best to the guests, and it is incredible that she extends this hospitality, passion and care to her everyday work. Three words she repeated many times and she lives by; passion, patience and empathy.
