The FDA last month approved #lefamulin for treatment of community-acquire pneumonia (CAP). Its spectrum of activity is similar to fluoroquinolones (FQs), which are commonly prescribed for CAP but have increasingly recognized adverse effects of QT prolongation, hypoglycemia, and tendonopathy. Cost will likely be a barrier to use; the wholesale acquisition cost of lefamulin will be $205 daily for IV treatment and $275 daily for oral treatment. several-fold more than moxifloxacin or levofloxacin.
