Signet Ring of Authority
“Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one so discreet and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck, and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”” (Genesis 41:39-44 WEB)
Before Pharaoh put on the signet ring on Joseph’s hand, he spoke, giving Joseph authority over the nation of Egypt. The ring therefore represents the authority of the King. Whoever wears the ring has been authorized to act on the King’s behalf, and the Kingdom’s resources are at this person’s disposal.
In the story of Joseph, Joseph is a picture of Jesus, who was accused of committing a crime that He did not commit, and then subsequently raised to the right hand of God, having all authority and power, as well as the name above every other name.
Jesus endured the greatest humiliation in order to purchase the greatest salvation for mankind. That is why Abba God gave Jesus the “signet ring”—all authority, glory, honor, and power.
We don’t really find any significant thing about rings until Jesus mentions it in His parable of the prodigal son. I believe He was drawing a reference to the story of Joseph because the “best robe” also parallels with the “robes of fine linen” that Pharaoh gave to Joseph.
““But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate; for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’ They began to celebrate.” (Luke 15:22-24 WEB)
In the parable, we find that the ring is given to the prodigal son who is a picture of us who are saved by Grace through faith. We did not do anything to deserve forgiveness, but God forgave and restored us to sonship because of His love and Grace.
So Jesus was the original recipient of the ring, and then Jesus said that Abba God gave the ring to us.
In the context of the parable, a family ring like that would have an insignia of the rich family, and when buying things, the prodigal son could just show the signet, meaning to say, “Charge the bill to my father’s tab.”
The ring being given to us tells us that we have received authority from God to act in His name, and to receive good things because of being in His family. We enjoy all these benefits at God’s expense, and He is most willing to provide what we need.
“The glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, even as we are one; I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me.” (John 17:22-23 WEB)
Before Jesus was arrested and eventually crucified, He prayed to the Father that the glory which belonged to Him (Jesus) should be given to us as well. This is like giving the signet ring which was His, to us.
See yourself as one with God, and make no distinction between what is His and what is yours. We have been joined to Christ through the new birth and the New Covenant of Grace.
““He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.” (Luke 15:31 WEB)
Do you believe this, that everything that belongs to God also belongs to you? You are so wealthy because God gave you every spiritual blessing so that you lack nothing.
Whenever you feel like you have nothing, use the signet ring as a visual aid. Imagine Abba God placing it on your finger and reminding you that all authority that belongs to Jesus has also been given to you. In Christ, you have everything that you need!

Wisdom for Financial Increase
Don’t stop at asking God to let a huge financial blessing drop into your lap. Ask Him to make you a person who brings lots of value to others so that you will be paid well for the value you bring.
Being paid by the hour is only linear increment. You work one hour more, you get one hour more of pay. That is not exciting.
For whatever job, profession, ministry, or business you are in, ask the Lord how you can bring lots of value to the table, and be a blessing in all your interactions with others. The possibilities from being paid on value is unlimited—the more value you bring, the more you receive, without being limited by time.
When Pharaoh appointed Joseph to be his premier (the second-most powerful man in Egypt), he wasn’t looking at how many hours Joseph could work. He saw the value of the man—a man with the Spirit of God who could interpret dreams supernaturally and give wise solutions to benefit the kingdom.
“Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one so discreet and wise as you. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”” (Genesis 41:38-44 WEB)
Prior to his promotion, Joseph was already a diligent man of faith who had the Lord with him, so everything he did prospered in his hand. As a foreign slave, he managed Potiphar’s household so well such that his master left everything in his hands. You have this kind of favor upon you if you are a born-again child of God.
“Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. He was in the house of his master the Egyptian. His master saw that Yahweh was with him, and that Yahweh made all that he did prosper in his hand. Joseph found favor in his sight. He ministered to him, and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. From the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake. Yahweh’s blessing was on all that he had, in the house and in the field.” (Genesis 39:2-5 WEB)
If you desire a promotion in your income, don’t look at how to earn more money. Pray and see how you can become more valuable to others—being able to solve big problems for more people will allow you to have unlimited pay increment!

Lavish Grace for Unwise Spenders
“Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a great priest over God’s house, let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:19-23 WEB)
Perhaps you’re feeling guilty right now for spending money carelessly, and you’re also feeling worried that because of your mistake, your provision will run out during this pandemic season.
The world has a gloomy outlook about the economy, and it may be true for them, but God has plans to provide for His children.
If we look at the Parable of the Prodigal Son, you’ll never find the father depriving the prodigal son of provision just because he squandered it all.
That younger son took the inheritance while his father was still alive, and spent it all. We would expect the father to scold him and put him on probation when he came home.
But that son received no lectures when he got home. Just lavish hugs and kisses. The father immediately commanded his servants to put the family signet ring on the son’s finger.
““He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.” (Luke 15:20-22 WEB)
This was essentially a blank cheque. He could buy anything, putting it on his father’s “tab”.
Dear brethren, if you have been unwise in your spending, it may trigger the evil conscience in your flesh to think that God is withholding His blessings to ‘teach you a lesson’.
But which good father starves his little child to let him learn a lesson? The apostle John addressed believers in his letter as “little children”.
We have to realize that Abba God is not holding back any blessings from us—He has already given us every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus.
Every blessing has been approved with a “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus.
Our own guilt, ignorance and evil conscience can rob us of faith, hindering ourselves from receiving God’s never-ending supply of grace.
“But I sinned by spending money unwisely. I wasn’t a good steward of God’s blessings. Don’t I deserve to be punished?”
On this day of Passover, I exhort you to look to the cross and see Jesus bearing all the punishment, condemnation and rejection for your sins.
This is exactly why we need Jesus. We keep failing and have no power to be perfect on our own, but because of His finished work at the cross, we have been totally forgiven.
This is the righteous basis for you to keep receiving good, even when you fail. It is the Grace of God.
And it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance (changing our minds) in Christ Jesus.
I’m not advocating unwise, exorbitant spending habits, but I’m saying that if you have failed in that area, there is no condemnation for you.
Abba God will save you from your bad financial situation, and make sure that you have no lack. As you experience this lavish grace, you will be transformed and become a better steward of God’s blessings.
“Don’t I have to do something to fix this mess that I created?”
Yes, your part is to believe God’s word. Believe that you have forgiveness of sins, that you are still righteous in Christ, and that you are blessed by Grace through faith, not by deserving it with your works.
The way that God has designed for His children to increase in provision, to go from barely surviving to wealthy, is through the grace of giving.
Be a channel of His love in this very practical area. Giving breaks the love for money and makes you more obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
If you can give of your resources, there’s very few things that you wouldn’t yield to God.
Instead of being unwise in spending on personal pleasures, why not be a generous giver? Give lavishly because you’ll always receive much more through that. Be a “prodigal son”—prodigal in giving, not in spending! Shalom 🙏
