Ups and Downs of Racing - Geraldine Read's Round 2 of the MCS 2017.
Last weekend we witnessed Dream Chaser Malaysia's Star Driver, Geraldine Read participate in the second round of the MCS 2017. The Malaysia Championship Series is a 1-hour race where teams compete in both Touring Production (TP) and Malaysia Touring Car (MTC) categories.
The TP class is reserved for the bigger 2-liter engine cars such as the Civic Type Rs, and the Integras, whereas Geraldine was competing in the MTC class, with smaller cars such as the Satria Neo and the Suzuki Swift being the choice of weapon. Her racecar is a black Satria Neo with pink highlights, making it very legible from the pits as she whizzes by the main straight.
The qualifying/practice lap was held during the late afternoon on Friday, with Race 1 during midday Saturday. Geraldine commented that Race 1 was extremely hot but she was able to maintain her pace and beat her personal best. It was a challenging race as the pace of the pack was increasingly competitive compared to previous rounds.
Race 2 was looking good throughout the beginning despite the downpour at the start of the race. Although the rain offered a cooler atmosphere on track, it made the track slippery causing a lot of spin outs throughout the race. Despite doing her personal best in Race 2, a turn of events caused Geraldine to slam her black and pink Satria Neo into the tire barriers during a rough negotiation with Turn 8, ending the race abruptly for our aspiring female racer with barely a few laps to go.
We met up with Geraldine at her pit after the Race ended, and saw the extent of damage to her car. Seeing the disappointment in her face, we know she's going to make a comeback during the next round of the MCS. Til then, we wish Geraldine and Dreamchaser Malaysia all the best for the next round!
