What better place to watch the city sparkle than on top of one of the most historic buildings on the island?
Currently the National Gallery, it was once the Supreme Court and City Hall - where Lord Mountbatten accepted the surrender of the Japanese in 1945 and Lee Kwan Yew and his cabinet took the Oath of Allegiance in 1959. It was also where Mr Lee had his first office as Prime Minister.
The foundation stone was laid for the Supreme Court in 1935 and buried underneath it, a time capsule to be opened in the year 3000.
Now, it's home to the gallery as well as restaurants and bars, including Smoke & Mirrors. From now till the end of the year, you can watch the night sky light up, while sipping on specially-curated cocktails featuring the Marques de Casa Conche Chardonnay and Merlot for the Marques Perfect Match.
The one in my hand here is the Sirena de Chile, the Marques Merlot paired with single-malt whiskey, Cherry liquor and aqua faba (a fabulous egg-alternative that is the water in a can of chickpeas!).
The Marques Perfect Match is going on at twelve restaurants across the island including Whitegrass and Salt Grill & Sky Bar.

As part of the activities to commemorate our Bicentennial, the Singapore Bicentennial $20 commemorative note was launched today by President Halimah Yacob.
The front of the note features our first President Yusof bin Ishak, against our former City Hall and Supreme Court (now the National Gallery Singapore). The back shows the old Singapore River blending into our present-day CBD, with Parliament House in the foreground, along with 8 pioneers who made significant contributions to Singapore:
- Scholar and writer Munshi Abdullah, who was also Raffles' secretary, interpreter and Malay tutor;
- British botanist Henry Nicholas Ridley, the first director of the Botanic Gardens;
- Philanthropist Tan Kah Kee;
- Philanthropist P. Govindasamy Pillai;
- Social worker Teresa Hsu;
- Badminton and tennis champion Alice Pennefather;
- Lieutenant Adnan Saidi, who led the defence of Bukit Chandu during the 1942 Japanese invasion; and
- Pioneering educator Ruth Wong, the first director of the Institute of Education, now NIE.
The note will be available at major banks from 10 June onwards, while the numismatic note set can be pre-ordered from the Singapore Mint.
I hope the note will remind us of all those who worked to bring our nation here, and what they achieved to give Singapore a bright future together. – LHL

#博物館控必來 ❣️ National Gallery Singapore
