2020 ZA Share International EXPO of Educational Alternatives and Innovations
from 12 pm November 21 to 12 pm November 22 (GMT+8), completely online for 24-hours! I couldn't be more excited to invite you to join!
here is the EXPO entrance link: http://zashare2020.org
.
----------------------------------
This year, there will be three main tracks happening simultaneously at the ZA Share Expo:
1. EXPO Website as RPG
First, the main Exhibition Website will be a website-based role-playing game, which will be as easy to access as any website. If you visit the Exhibition, you will become a lost Star Wanderer that collided on planet Earth in ZA Share Era VI and embark on a journey to find your way back to your own orbit. During this journey, you have to visit different space stations (learn from different exhibitors) to collect the required materials to fly back to your orbit!
2. 24hr Non-Stop Online TV Channel
Second, there will be a video channel that plays various programs 24-hour non-stop, just like any other TV channel! On the video channel, you'll see reality shows featuring alternative learning opportunities, such as farming and airplane-flying; talk shows with celebrities, politicians, and academics in Taiwan on transforming education in different sectors; and the Taiwan International Education Summit (TIES), which will be featuring education pioneers from Japan, Korea, India to the United States on Towards an Anti-Fragile Paradigm in Education: Shifting from the focus from EE (Effectiveness & Efficiency) to RR (Resilience & Robustness) .
3. Virtual Lounge -- Host or Join Open Spaces for Free!
Third, to foster spontaneous co-learning, networking, and joy, everyone is welcomed to host an Open Space in whatever format, and the registration form and Realtime Bulletin Board is already live! Why not join the play with friends around the world?
At ZA Share, we strive to facilitate meaningful connections between our exhibitors and our visitors. A large portion of them are young adults aged 18 to 30 and young teachers and parents aged 30 to 45. Many are unsatisfied with education's status quo, so attend our expo to be inspired, explore the other possibilities to learning, and find out actions they can take to make a difference.
With a considerable community size from the bottom-up, our expo also served as a platform to bridge civic action with government-industry-academia collaboration. Aestheticell, for example, is a civic project founded by a group of then-college students. When they first showcased their dream to bring aesthetics to Taiwanese textbooks at ZA Share 2016, they received the support to make their dream a reality -- Their designs were eventually accepted and published by major textbook publishers across the country, later even received a national design award.
We believe that to change society, participation in social change has to become a "trend." Fortunately, with the joint effort with all of our partners and community members, the number of Taiwanese students pursuing alternative or innovative forms of accredited education (i.e., Experimental Education, as defined by the Taiwan government) has five folded in the previous five years!
If you also want to make educational alternatives and innovations more widely acceptable and accessible, why don't you join us to have fun together and spread the word? AERO members such as North Star, Agile Learning Centers, and Sri Aria are all exhibiting at the ZA Share Expo this year!
EXPO SUMMIT HOST AN OPEN SPACE
Again, we deeply appreciate your effort in making a different kind of education possible. We genuinely hope to see you at the ZA Share Global PopUp School!
Sincerely,
Ozzie Su

Last week Chen Sheng-wei (陳昇瑋), Taiwan AI Academy’s CEO and E. Sun Financial Holding’s CTO, passed away from a stroke. This was a big loss to the tech and AI community, and we’d like to take the time to highlight some of his accomplishments for the ecosystem.
He has been dubbed “Taiwan’s AI guru” and “the godfather of Taiwan’s data science” because of his contributions to the community, making data science known as his north star, and growing AI talent. Taiwan AI Academy, for example, nurtures top AI talent through intensive four-month training programs to help industries in Taiwan gain a competitive edge in the AI revolution and industrial development. They offer different tracks depending on the students’ skills and needs, such as programs for technical professionals versus ones for business managers. They have a roster of heavyweight AI experts on the panel of teachers who have teaching experience as well. Taiwan AI Academy has so far cultivated around 6,000 young people around the country in 2 years, according to the academy.
The National Development Council (NDC) had previously recruited him to serve as a government advisor in drafting an open-data policy due to his expertise. One of his latest projects was the Taiwan Renaissance Platform, which was launched earlier this year with the aim of helping Taiwanese businesses upgrade and transfer from their existing, more traditional business models, in preparation for the challenges ahead.
In terms of his background, Chen Sheng-wei received his PhD. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University and his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from National Tsing Hua University. He started his career at Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s top research institute, at the age of 26. In 2017, he helped Academia Sinica to build its first popular science website to make science more approachable to the general public. During his 18-year tenure of service to the country’s research pool, Taiwanese manufacturers, and future workforce, he published over 130 research papers and founded the Taiwan Data Science Society alongside Taiwan AI Academy.
What kind of lessons can founders take away from Chen Sheng-wei?
1. Have a north star: when you have a big, lofty goal to reach, you essentially have a vision for your company. Keeping your north star in mind will ensure that you’re always moving in the right direction.
2. Users first: One of the biggest challenges in the early days of AI was education. The general public viewed AI in the lens of entertainment or sci-fi, which wasn’t that accurate. Chen Sheng-wei educated the public on the true nature of AI and the importance of data science in a format that best suited the public’s UX. The same kind of thinking can be applied to your users as well.
3. Give back to the community: One of the ways that Silicon Valley is so powerful is because everyone in the ecosystem understands the concept of “paying it forward”. Helping other founders and stakeholders will open doors of opportunity in the future. See if you can use the COVID-19 situation in a positive way to help others like Chen Sheng-wei did, for example by taking your data and turning it into content for your users / clients, or by onboarding offline clients affected by the virus to being online to drive sales.
Thank you Chen Sheng-wei for your contributions to Taiwan’s development, may you rest in peace.

This is what I wanna tell you that most people won’t tell you.
When someone is the centre of attention in a birthday, in a wedding, in any celebration...or when someone gets picked in a casting or wins a competition, when someone gets a promotion or gets a pitch, all that seems normal in daily life, what we don’t talk about is how someone else ALWAYS LOSES.
In as much as it is our normal nowadays, if we truly open our eyes to see this, we know it is impossible to not treat each other with the utmost delicateness and preciousness.
For example, all my friends who celebrated with me on my birthday or wedding gets celebrated at the same time, they even got served a home cooked dinner by the bride and groom. If I were the boss, judge, teacher or project director of any work, my attention would be given equally to all the candidates who lost as well as won. Because the honest truth is, we know that deep down we are made of the same essence, the same substance, and when there is a man-made format to judge who’s better and who’s less, it HURTS for we know it’s not true.
And that is how I build strength in my life, by feeling how hurtful life is every day because we have succumbed to all the falsities thinking they are the real deal and living so far away from our true nature. Without a need to change this nor an indulgence to stay in withdrawal, life is all about the Expression and the Livingness of what Truth really is. .
