Who Created Hellfire?
“Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;” (Matthew 25:41 WEB)
Hell is not to be confused with the lake of fire.
Hell is a temporary holding prison where the spirits of the unsaved go to upon death, to wait for the final judgment.
On the other hand, the lake of fire is the eternal abode of the unsaved after the Great White Throne Judgment.
However, one thing is the same: God created both Hell and the lake of fire.
The Bible says that the soul that sins must die, and this death includes eternal separation from God’s presence.
We are spirit-beings who were created by the breath of God, when God breathed onto Adam and made him a living soul.
Our spirit is eternal, and must be housed somewhere. If not in God’s presence, then separated from Him, in Hell, and eventually, the lake of fire.
The flames in Hell and the lake of fire were made by God as a tool to punish sinful souls. He prepared this fire mainly as a punishment for the devil and his fallen angels. However, every unsaved person that dies without receiving forgiveness of sins through faith in Christ will descend into the fires of Hell.
Sin is not a small matter. It is so grievous that the Son of God had to bleed and die to pay for the sins of the world.
God is just to punish sin because good must be rewarded and evil must be punished. That is the role of a righteous judge, and that divine order holds this created universe together in perfect balance.
Thanks to nonsensical movies, people believe that the devil is somehow the ruler of Hell, and that he is having fun torturing human souls down there.
The truth is, Satan has never been to Hell, and just the thought of being in that place makes him afraid. Remember—hellfire is not demonic, but made by God to punish evil.
Consider how the pack of demons called “Legion” was so afraid of being sent into the abyss, which is the fiery prison for fallen angels and the Nephilim.
“You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.” (James 2:19 WEB)
Think about how the demons are shuddering in fear when thinking about God. They are afraid of being cast into the abyssal fire to suffer torment.
“The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are also. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10 WEB)
The devil will be thrown into the lake of fire at the end of time, and he will be the one screaming the loudest. Every soul will experience the level of pain equivalent to the severity of the sins committed by them.
The devil has no power over Hell. He is afraid of Hell because hellfire is made by God, to punish the devil and his fallen angels. The devil is destined to lose and everything he does is out of fear and desperation now.
“Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you.” (Luke 10:19 WEB)
Don’t be afraid—you have God’s authority, and in the name of Jesus, you can trample over all the power of the enemy!
