美國在台協會處長酈英傑、外交部長吳釗燮、行政院海洋委員會主任委員李仲威及海洋委員會海巡署署長周美伍，於3月26日正式啟用美國在台協會與駐美國台北經濟文化代表處所簽署的「成立海巡工作小組備忘錄」。此備忘錄在昨天於美國華府簽署，確認雙方在追求共同目標上之合作關係，包括保護海洋資源、減少「非法、未報告及不受規範」之漁業行為，並參與海上聯合搜救及海洋環境污染應變活動等。

AIT Director Christensen joined Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, Ocean Affairs Council Minister Lee Chung-wei, and Coast Guard Administration Director General Chou Mei-wu on March 26 in launching an AIT-TECRO Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Coast Guard Working Group (CGWG). The MOU was signed yesterday in Washington, and affirms a relationship with the common objectives of preserving maritime resources; reducing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing; and participating in joint maritime search and rescue and maritime environmental response events.
As the Director noted, our observations have shown us that the Coast Guard Administration is “highly versatile in a variety of skills” (十八般武藝樣樣精通) and we believe they are the right partner for the United States. We look forward to working more closely together to tackle global challenges.
