Our crazy underwater project has premiered on The Independent yesterday! Novo Amor’s BIRTHPLACE sends a powerful message about the harsh reality of Ocean Pollution and Plastic Usage in a uniquely poetic way.
In this film, super freediver Michael Board is seen arriving in the vast beautiful ocean, and soon find himself amidst an alarming amount of waste. In the end, a life-sized whale, made of waste, swallows him.
3 months ago, when 2 crazy directors from Amsterdam Jorik & Sil told me about their idea, I thought it was too impossible to pull off... Filming underwater, coordinating boats and divers, shooting wildlife, sorting trash, coordinating ocean cleanup, building a life-sized whale made of bamboo and trash and maneuvering it in the ocean.. I mean like.. THIS IS FREAKIN AWESOME! And so paved the way for the multi-talented line-producer Bayu and I for the best workation ever :P
And after you’ve been blown away by its cinematography, go blame pro cinematographer Nihal Friedel and Camera Assistant David Cheung for it!
Please spread the message! <3
