#葉郎電影徵信社 #靈感疑案

作為親身經歷1960年代、1970年代美國社會動盪的美國青年，George Lucas 心裡想拍的其實是一部越戰電影。

從原本預定由他執導的越戰電影《Apocalypse Now 現代啟示錄》劇組臨陣脫逃之後，Lucas 偷偷把越戰的相關人事物植入到他的下一個製作《Star Wars 星際大戰》的背景設定之中。比如說《The Empire Strikes Back 帝國大反擊》中首度登場的帝國皇帝 Palpatine 其實就是美國總統 Richard Nixon，而《Return of the Jedi 絕地大反攻》中的 Ewoks 一族就是越南人。

「整部電影基本上就是在講越戰。大約在 Nixon 競選連任的時候，開始讓我思考為什麼在歷史上民主經常會選擇向獨裁投降。這些民主政體通通不是被獨裁者推翻什麼的，而是自己拱手將權力送給了獨裁者」George Lucas 在一次訪談中說。

早就默默在心裡規劃好九部電影的 Lucas，在1981年的會議中就告訴合作的編導他對 Darth Vader 背景（也就是前傳的情節線）的完整鋪陳：他說年輕的 Anakin Skywalker 開始跟 Palpatine 這個人一起混，因為那時候誰都沒有意識到 Palpatine 是壞人，畢竟人民選出來的公職人員怎麼可能會是壞人。

星戰電影因此等於那個世代美國人的懺悔。因為美國人對於越戰/複製人戰爭的泥淖和戰爭造成的社會分裂已經失去耐性，所以選擇相信誓言終結戰爭的 Nixon / Palpatine。他們從來沒有預料被預言會帶來和平/原力平衡的人最終卻是廣告不實的最大反派。

Nixon 在終結越戰和減緩美蘇對立的同時，卻發動了更多秘密戰爭。不只介入更多國家的政治，還運用 FBI、CIA 等政府資源展開對於國內政敵進行廣泛的電子監聽。後來曝光的錄音內容中，他甚至向涉入水門案即將被定罪的幕僚保證他們絕對不需要入監服刑，因為美國總統享有絕對而不受監督的赦免權（後來被 Donald Trump 活用到了一個美妙的極致）。

即便水門案的非法監聽以及相關滅證事跡逐一爆發，決定要演到底的 Nixon 在電視上對記者堅稱：「人們必須知道他們的總統是不是個騙子。我不是騙子。我擁有的一切都是應得的。」

最終 Nixon 成為美國史上第一個在任內請辭下台的總統。
