We got engaged! A day before the wedding. I really thought @taufiqshahf was not going to propose before the solemnisation. We both agreed that we won’t have an engagement party or a prolonged engagement because we wanted to save money and it wasn’t really our style 👩‍❤️‍👨

But on the day of CNY eve, after coming back from my best friend’s house, he told me to get ready and gather all 6 of our cats. In he went to the room with the babies and I waited in the office. Of course by this time I knew what he was going to do, so I sat waiting with the bag of treats.

Suddenly the speakers started playing the cheesiest Brian McKnight song, “Marry You”, and out came Shugo, the eldest cat running with a heart-shaped card ribboned around his neck. I shook the treats bag so Shugo knows where to run to and untied the card. I read the hand written card and my heart was full. This was followed by Loki, Merlin, Cozy, Coco and Mochi 🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

Then Taufiq came out, all nervous as usual, and started his wonderful speech. Both of us starting crying, not realising how emotional it all really was. I was about to spend the rest of my life with this man!! You don’t really realise it until your other half is down on one knee asking you to marry you. As a joke I wanted to say no but of course I said yes! 💍

Initially, I think we wanted to keep it as private as possible but such a day should really be celebrated with family and friends. Ergo the midnight invites to some of our loved ones 😂 Of course I missed out on some people and truly we apologise but when we are able to do the reception, rest assured we’re gonna celebrate it up! 🎊

Every year, December 17th is an incredibly special day for our family, MUJI SAMA. Muji, our only beloved dog, is turning 5 today. He’s not a little puppy anymore. Our memories of him being a young, playful puppy have begun to fade away now as his personality has matured into adulthood, which also means we must pay attention to his health. As long as he’s still alive, we will continue to take great care and strive to optimise his health as much as we can.

It has been a year since Muji got his teeth cleaned. We noticed that plaque and tartar on his teeth starting to irritate his gums, so we took this day as an opportunity to get a check up on his teeth and general health. We then thought that bringing Mumaru - our cat, to the hospital to be neutered was also a logical thing to do. Only little we know, our special day, December 17th, for the past 5 years has turned into the saddest day for our family. Mumaru has just passed away today. He has left us forever. There is a hope in a mist of our sorrow that we will overcome the grief like we have done in the past with other family members. We didn’t expect him to leave us so soon. It is so unexpected as there was no sign that his health had deteriorated.

To those who followed us for some time, we hope you notice that when it comes to their wellbeing, we always choose the best options for our fur babies. Neutering male cats reduces the incidence of prostate cancer and also for Mumaru, it would deter him from mating with his own sibling, Mumi. Sadly, Mumaru had a server allergic reaction to the anaesthesia during the operation, which caused a sudden death. Being a short-nosed and flat-faced cat breed with an exotic short hair, increases the chance of respiratory complications associated with anaesthesia. The vet and his team tried their best to save his life, and they did the best they could.

There is nothing we can say to express how sad we are that he is gone. We just want to thank him for being such a great cat that always brought joy to anyone that encountered him. His agreeableness and high sense of being affectionate converted those who are scared of cats to become a cat lover. Mumaru liked to be picked up or held, even with any strangers, and this had never ever terrified him. You always had one facial expression in the countless photos that we took of you Mumaru. You never destroyed the belongings. There are many endless definitions of you, our dearest Mumaru.

There is an interesting fact that funny and cute cat’s videos can actually ease anxiety and depression. It was mentioned to us that Mumaru’s video clips have helped some people get through their days when they were down. This might not be the greatest invention in the world but small bits count. We wish that our tiny drop of positivity can reinforce that in this world, life is worth living. The same goes to those pet owners who understand the emotionally attached bonds we have to our pets.

Despite a lack of related information, she is a girl who loves Hong Kong. Under severe depression, hardly can we imagine how she could endure 33 days without the assistance of medicine, alone.

張俊富 22歲 (Cheung, 22)

Being a student form the Open University of Hong Kong, he should have been similar to other people, leading a simple life. Instead of opting for pleasant university life, he chose to stand up for Hong Kong. We hope that he can safely return home, together with 11 of the others.

Since he is relatively more mature, he takes care of himself well. Such an active youngster was however arrested during the Anti-extradition Law movement, being entitled with a criminal charge.

Cheung had once told his father that he needs to “fight for democracy and freedom”, which was questioned by his father as to for what he was fighting for. “For the next generation”, Cheung answered resoundingly. Such a firmed belief continued to glow upon the moment he was on board. He understood that to fight for the next generation, he should first stay alive.

李子賢 29歲 (Lee, 29)

Lee is a 29-year old cat lover - going to sleep with the two cats he adopted was the most valuable moment in his life. Attempting to leave Hong Kong, he took the initiative to take a photo with his mother. Before going on board, he took out the photo, thinking about his mother who was always proud of his helpfulness and filial piety. Tracing back to his mother’s birthdays on which he made cheesecake and sang a song, he hoped that his mother would know he loves Hong Kong, too.


郭子麟 18歲 (Kok, 18)

Apart from his family, Kwok, an HKU Engineering Student who loves drama, was also thinking about a girl whom he knew from the Drama Club. Perhaps she is, indeed, the main cast of his life.

鄭子豪 17歲 (Cheng, 17)

Before leaving, Cheng used his pocket money to purchase a phone for his mother as a birthday gift. The phone is still here while the receiver has been so distant away. Cheng loves Hong Kong no less than his family. He was willing to bear the burden and go away, taking all the fishing equipment and leaving overnight.

廖子文 17歲 (Liu, 17)

Liu will become 18 after less than one week. To celebrate his birthday, he used to dine outside with his family – such usual practice, however, became a memory. Nevertheless, he actually has already participated in the Rites of Passage Ceremony – because what he experienced was much more than any other others.

Liu is a tough guy, hiding most of the emotions.

When he was small, knowing his older brother being bullied, he would directly ride on a bicycle to drive away the bullies. Most probably, his insistence on justice was what drives him to embark on the journey of the Movement.

黃偉然 29歲 (Wong, 29)

“Forgive my selfishness. In face of the parting of life and death, millions of words inside my throat can only be expressed between written lines.” – this was what written by Wong, a 29-year old motor mechanic, who left in his room the letter written with wordings like “I’m so sorry”, “sorry, mom” and “forgive my selfishness”.

Even since being released from Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, Wong had been more distant to his friends and family. Rarely did he have dining with his family, but often did he lock himself inside the room. He even reduced contacts with two of his favourite cats. Probably, he was paving the way for the departure with his family who may be more accustomed to living a life without Wong.

It's spring cleaning time and we desperately needed to take care of the cat corner after filling it up with all our house catalogues. The cat tower poles (which I'm pretty sure have some sort of hand-stabbing PLASTIC rope?!) have also been shredded to the point where our cats now sometimes slip when trying to climb it and therefore don't use it as often. So we bought some actual rope to replace it with, severely underestimating the amount of rope it requires to wrap cat poles.

For the record, we used maybe 50-55 meters (~55-60 yards) of 6mm hemp rope (on a 10cm thick pole, about 110cm in length, if anyone out there needs to make their own calculations), which cost about 1,200 yen (~$12) per 20 meters. So it makes sense why they would use something cheap, plastic and stabby when making the original product... Anyway, we could only do the two most used poles instead of all of them today. But that's okay, because we also underestimated how long it would take to re-wrap the poles, and there wouldn't have been enough hours in the day to do the whole thing anyway!

Hardwood floors are common in houses (especially in more traditional houses), but the vinyl/laminate floors are much more common in apartments due to their cheaper price. Laminate flooring (often marked as "sheet" flooring) seems like the largest market for new home builders right now--most showrooms we visited primarily offered laminate flooring. When we expressed concern with the sturdiness and longevity of laminate flooring, basically everyone just started recommending us higher-end versions of laminate flooring that have better sealing layers on top... Hardwood flooring is incredibly expensive in Japan. The catalogue we have shows prices up to TWICE the cost of the engineered hardwood we chose in this video.

At least there are tons of incredible wallpaper options that are relatively cheap! And there are quite a few places to get decently priced tile (mainly for walls, but for flooring as well). As with everything, you get what you pay for when it comes to quality and design... And of course, designer options exist as well, with absurdly unaffordable prices.
