A sneak preview of the first issue of “Silencing the Serpent” Patreon Bible Study series.
Read about the first temptation in Genesis 3, and see if you can identify how the serpent used the six tactics mentioned in the picture to tempt Eve to sin. When you’re not ignorant of his schemes, you gain an upper hand when you get tempted.
“that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.” (2 Corinthians 2:11 WEB)

The Two Adams
“When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.” (Genesis 3:6 WEB)
The Genesis account of the sin of Adam doesn’t give us a full picture of what exactly happened.
If we just read it alone, it seems as though Adam agreed with Eve and believed that nothing would happen from eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil.
However, the apostle Paul received a revelation that Adam knew perfectly well that eating the fruit would mean joining Eve in death.
“Adam wasn’t deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience;” (1 Timothy 2:14 WEB)
Adam wasn’t deceived by the serpent like Eve was. He consciously chose to be with Eve and share the same fate as her, out of his love for her.
“Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24 WEB)
Adam chose to leave His Father (Creator) God and the pleasures of the Garden of Eden to join with his wife in death.
Adam chose to sin against God and allow the whole earth to fall together with him.
This was a grievous mistake! God could have created another woman for him, but Adam insisted on being with Eve.
“But I desire to have you to be free from cares. He who is unmarried is concerned for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord; but he who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife.” (1 Corinthians 7:32-33 WEB)
Instead of helping her husband by drawing him to God, Eve drew Adam away from God, influencing him to do what pleased her instead of doing what pleases God.
Even though Adam chose to join Eve in death, he had no power to reverse death. The sacrifice of himself led to sin and death reigning in the earth.
As the all-knowing God, Yahweh knew that this would happen, long before He even created the world.
He too, chose to taste death for the ones He loves—His future bride, the church.
The cross was not a last resort. It was part of God’s plan all along.
Yahweh became a Man (the Last Adam) and as Jesus, He was crucified on a tree, tasting death for us.
This time, it was different—He had the power to reverse the effect of the first Adam’s sin.
The sacrifice of Himself purchased eternal life for His bride.
“So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” (1 Corinthians 15:45 WEB)
Through Jesus who loves us, we who have faith in Him have received eternal life. Never forget that God loves you so much that He died for you so that you could have life.
The Bible is an epic love story about the lengths God went to in order to save you, win your heart and become one with you forever.
