Jacarandas in bloom, sun in our eyes, this 17th century marvel of a building looms in front of us as we drive into the valley, where the 2 glaciel rivers Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu meet.

Inside Punakha Zong, where Kings were coronated and royal weddings including the latest one took place, we were greeted by beams as tall as a tree (cuz it was one - 1 single tree for 1 strong beam, plated in gold afterward), halls big enough to hold world conferences and hundreds of monks, giant courtyards and ancient relics as old as the 17th century building.
