Singaporeans are amazing, and i think in general, also quite shy. I love how #ThisisSG encourages to celebrate those who inspire and move us in some way. Today, as part of #ThisisSG, I want to share with you some people I know who have been spreading love and hope during this period! @karentan_flipflops making masks for Masks Sewn with Love, @dwaynelau telling stories to children, @franklymydear creating a safe space for women to tell their stories, @caroleneruth getting so many people together to send love to the behind the scenes people in the theatre, @kittytude is now answering Covid related enquiries as a call centre agent!!! There was waay too much to fit into the caption so i’ve put it in the photos! There are MANY who have been doing stuff, I cldn’t fit them all in! Lots of people in the industry are putting their creativity to good use; setting up little businesses, offering their transferrable skills to other industries, staying connected and looking out for each other. Venues moving quickly to gather information on how to work out processes and measures to keep everyone safe when they enter, arts companies brainstorming how to engage communities n create work tt comforts, distracts us, makes us laugh, makes us feel n connects us to one another.
.
.
If you know someone who captures this essence of #ThisisSG, do share about them! It’s been so apparent tt all of us can make a difference.
.
.
ps. Abt a year ago in another post, I had said, a hope I had for Singapore, was tt pursuing a career in the arts wldn’t just be seen as someone “daring to pursue their passion”, but as something tt is as essential to society as, say, a career in science. I’ve been watching Selling Sunset, Glow Up, a few of the theatre-company-made shows for online offerings like Murder at Mandai Camp by @sightlinesent, Two Songs and a Story by @checkpointtheatre, The Pitch by @pangdemoniumtheatre @singaporerepertorytheatre n @wildricesg switching between Friends and Phua Chu Kang reruns (w intro!! 😂), n I still have that hope! I also hope tt we will continue to see the importance of all our essential workers n medical workers n protect them through n after all this! 🇸🇬

We watched The Gingerbread Man yesterday and it was such a great way to start the day because it got all of us feeling happy and super energetic - which is much needed considering the kids and I were out for 14 hours!
I always love seeing how SRT's The Little Company retells classic tales and turns them into original musicals which are fun and exciting for the whole family to watch. The Gingerbread Man was one of the memorable stories I knew as a kid and I was eager to see what adventures he was going to get into.
Besides being a giant cookie who can talk and run, Ginger learns about the value of teamwork and friendship after making a terrible mess at the farm. Played by Juni Goh, I was most impressed by his energy level and outstanding vocals, only to realise he is the lead singer of MICappella. No wonder lar really very good ley!
The kids loved Anya the farmer, who is also the caring mum of Ginger, and the Fox who did a most incredible job at being the sly, crafty antagonist who wanted to gobble Ginger up. The show lasted for 50 minutes and we absolutely loved every minute of it because it was so engaging, exciting and electrifying - we especially loved the Electricity dance too!
The show runs from now to 6 Dec at the Singapore Repertory Theatre. Get your tickets now at https://www.srt.com.sg/show/thegingerbreadman/ before they run out.
P.S. Thanks to Singapore Repertory Theatre for letting us meet the cast before the show, for letting the kids learn to build a farmhouse as a team and for the yummy gingerbread cookies and Vitagen too!

"故事精彩丰富,互动性超强,老少咸宜,《了不起的狐狸爸爸》果真了不起!"
We watched Fantastic Mr Fox this morning and I have to say it's one of the most enjoyable shows we've watched so far. Even the hubby say it stands out from other shows and is refreshingly creative.
Fantastic Mr Fox, a classic tale by Roald Dahl, is an inspiring story about the brave and witty Mr Fox who, with the help of his family and friends, outsmarts three farmers’ nasty schemes in order to provide food for his animal friends. Did you know that the weasel is 黄鼠狼, mole is 鼹鼠 and badger is 獾 in Mandarin? Yup, we definitely learnt something new today. Watching Mandarin theatrical productions is such a good way for the kids to brush up on their mother tongue language too.
We thoroughly loved how the cast would interact with the audience (they even walked around before it started, asked if we've eaten and gave the kids high fives) throughout the show, how they would switch effortlessly into their different roles, how they were so natural at cracking jokes and making us laugh as they retold this classic story about kinship and friendship.
Asher seldom tells me that he loves shows but this time round, he said he did, especially at the part where he had to 挖呀挖呀挖 and pretend to dig with the cast. The girls were reminded that a family sticks together through hardship and that in the face of tough obstacles, you never give up. That is so important, right?
The show runs till 13 Sept so do get your tickets @sisticsingapore if you have not. Thanks to @srt_thelittlecompany for this totally fabulous Mandarin production!
