三年之前，Saoirse Ronan 25 歲，Timothée Chalamet 23 歲，在拍攝 Greta Gerwig 導演處女作《淑女鳥》時相識，倆人各自以無比亮眼的驚人表現闖入奧斯卡最高殿堂，接著再續前緣重逢於星光熠熠的《她們》，化身成為 Jo March 與 Laurie，最終變為一對互相讓彼此心碎的好朋友，對 Timothée Chalamet 而言，跟她合作彷彿毫無任何演戲之感，Saoirse Ronan 則表示：

《小婦人》是 Greta Gerwig 母親從小念給她聽的床邊讀物，整個成長過程長期深受此書影響，還是小女孩時，她崇拜的角色為 Jo March，但當蛻變成一位女人時，她崇拜的對象則轉而為作者 Louisa May Alcott，因此她的版本將會以一個成熟的當代視野述說，同時深入挖掘其他人物的故事，日前導演也於 Vanity Fair 的訪談裡說道，她曾是那隻成為倦鳥才懂得歸巢的淑女鳥，而今又著手拍攝一部對她意義極為重大的《小婦人》，誰又最適合化身成過去她一心嚮往的虛構人物？除了 Saoirse Ronan 沒有第二人選，因為這是一個家喻戶曉的故事，對於卻是導演相當個人且私密的電影。

原作者 Louisa May Alcott 終生未嫁，所以不少現代學者對她的性向持保留態度，在書中，Jo 曾經穿著男性衣物感嘆自己的女性特質，因此間接也加深許多人的臆測，另一方面 Jo 與 Laurie 的關係也證明兩性友誼的另一種型態。Greta Gerwig 無意於在作者身上貼任何標籤，只是希望盡可能貼近真實，她深入研究了作者諸多生前的日記與來往信件再放入劇本中，並進一步指出，Jo 是一個擁有男孩名字的女孩，Laurie 則是擁有女孩名字的男孩，在某些層面而言，他們就像彼此的孿生姊弟或兄妹。

I am very happy to share this cover video with you. Growing up with a heavy Disney influence, both Elaine and I enjoyed and had so much fun working together on this project. Elaine is someone who's intelligent, excellence-driven, passionate and professional in what she does, not to mention her beautiful voice! She sounds just like a Disney princess.
