Thank you. I am so nervous.
OK, let’s do it.
Dee [Gordon], Yusei [Kikuchi], no crying tonight. No crying. This is a happy occasion (場合). When I retired (退休) that night in Tokyo, I had an incomplete feeling because the great fans of Seattle could not there. Tonight I want to express my appreciation (感謝) to you for your touching support (支持) over the years. When I came to Seattle in 2001, no position player had ever come from Japan before. The one you got was 27 years old, small, skinny and unknown.
You had every reason not to accept (接受) me. However, you welcomed me with open arms and you have never stopped, even when I left and came back. I was so grateful (感恩的) for the chance to return in 2018 and the reason is you fans.
Thank you Seattle. I also appreciate the fans across America who supported me in New York, Miami, and even in many places as a visiting player. Baseball is truly a national pastime (休閒活動) in America and I was so happy to play in front of the people who love and respect the game so much.
It has to be an honor to play baseball with and against some of the greatest competitors (競爭者) I have ever known. They inspired (鼓舞) me to raise my game to a higher level.
Now, I have the pleasure (榮幸) of spending time with these young and talented players who will bring the franchise a championship.
Despite (儘管) the language and culture gap, not to mention (更不用說) an age difference of 20 years, I enjoy being around them because I feel their passion for the game I love is genuine (真切的). As I look back to my career (職涯), if there’s anything that gives me pride, it is that I overcame the daily challenges and I have an equal passion for each day, from the first one in 2001 to the last one in 2019. As we enter the final days of a long season, every player should remind (提醒) himself what does it mean to be a professional (專業人士). These last days are just as important as the first ones and all those in between. Every day you need to go about your business with the same reason. That is the greatest gift you can give to your performance and to the fans who come to enjoy this special game.
To the Seattle Mariners organization, I am forever grateful to you for giving me the chance to play the game I love in the city I have come to love. Thank you also to my family for your endless support.
Now, let’s play baseball.

Ichiro to announce retirement today
45-year-old batting ninth and playing right field

TOKYO -- Even as Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki was playing out his final game
of the Opening Series, MLB.com confirmed a Kyodo News report Thursday night
that the 45-year-old will be announcing his retirement from baseball
following the game.
The team has not confirmed the report.
Ichiro popped out in foul territory to A's third baseman Matt Chapman in his
first at-bat and grounded out to second in the fourth as he continued
searching for his first hit of the season after being penciled in by Seattle
manager Scott Servais for a second straight game in right field as the
Mariners closed out their week-long visit to Japan.
Ichiro went 0-for-1 with a walk before being taken out in the bottom of the
fourth in Wednesday's 9-7 Opening Night victory, in the process becoming the
second-oldest position player ever to start a season opener.
The two teams were allowed to carry three extra players for the two
international games, but will need to cut to 25 players before resuming play
in the United States next Thursday, so Ichiro's position was understood to
likely be short term.
The Mariners have said they're taking things "day by day" with Ichiro, but
clearly he's not part of the future plans for a team looking to rebuild with
younger players.
Servais remained non-committal when asked what the Mariners would do with
Ichiro when returning to Seattle.
"We're really taking it a day at a time," Servais said. "The focus here was
to make sure he was ready to go and our team was ready to go when we got to
Tokyo. We've been consistent all along in saying we'll reevaluate when we get
back to Seattle and see where we're at and where he's at and go from there."
