I miss Kanagawa Prefecture! This beautiful prefecture includes Hakone, Yokohama, Odawara, Isehara and etc - all within 1 hour plus train ride from Tokyo.
What flowers do most people associate with Japan? Why, cherry blossoms, of course! The pretty pink bursts of color on these enchanting trees are truly a sight to behold. The cherry blossom is the personification of spring in Japan, and in Kanagawa Prefecture they tend to bloom from the end of March through mid-April. Some of the best places to see the blossoms in Kanagawa Prefecture are Ooka River and Mitsuike Park in Yokohama City, and by Odawara City's old Japanese castle, Odawarajo. Of course, there are many other wonderful places to view the cherry blossoms throughout Kanagawa Prefecture, so why not take a stroll and see what you can find?

The Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is a great way of paying for your trains if you're travelling around Japan. It's excellent value compared to individual tickets for the shinkansen (bullet train). However, at £230 it does add a lot to your budget. Here are some alternatives to the JR Pass that might save you money, especially if you're just visiting one area of Japan (eg Hokkaido, Kyushi, Kansai or Tohoku). There are various options including regional passes, the Tokyo Wide Pass for day trips from Tokyo, the Flex Ticket from JR Tokai Tours and the budget Platt Kodama for the bullet train. There are also discount train ticket packages for popular tourist destinations from Japanese rail companies (eg passes from Tobu and Odakyu Railways, like the Hakone Free Pass and passes for Nikko).
