So many bars in Berlin, so little time, but I did manage to strike a few off the list!
Klunkerkranich: Artsy, chill and incredibly hipster, I’d never imagine finding this on the rooftop of a shopping centre. It gets packed and they charge entry after 3.30pm, so go early and save some money for another beer. 😏
Deck5: Another shopping centre rooftop bar, it had a Café Del Mar feel, for a slightly older and more sophisticated crowd. Time it right for sunset and you’ll have some pretty nice shots!
Becketts Kopf: Fancy cocktails that you either pick from the menu that’s inserted into the book by Samuel Beckett, or you can chat with the bartender and he’ll whip something up for you according to your preferred flavour profile.
Schwarze Traube: Round the corner from Vögelchen (The Bird Cafe Bar, with a hidden basement accessed through a cupboard) that was sadly closed when I went, I discovered this place by accident and I’m happy I did! The bartender did a verbal introduction of the 4 drinks she had on the non-existent menu for the day, and was happy to swap out any ingredients you might dislike.
Buck And Breck: The most hidden of the 5 bars I visited (they don’t even have a Facebook page!), it’s marked by a neon “Closed” sign - but just ring the bell and hope they have space for you! I went at 8pm, when they first opened, thinking I’d have a couple of drinks before getting dinner someplace else, but I ended up staying till 1.45am - they don’t allow handphones in the bar, but the bartenders were fun to chat with, and I also ended up crashing someone’s first date, so yes, it was definitely a night to remember!
