原本2天前日方所有人還矢口否認延期選項，今天一整天從加拿大率先發難表示不參加2020東京奧運、澳洲跟進表示已經告訴選手可以開始準備2021東京奧運，接著安倍開始在中午前的國會鬆口「如果不能以完全的型態舉辦，不會中止，但延期的確是選項。」後，東京奧運如期舉辦與否的風向整個如春天氣候一般大轉變！
　
於是東奧會主席森喜朗、橋本五輪相、東京都知事小池都在今天的媒體採訪中逐漸鬆口討論延期可能，世界田徑總會（IAAF）主席柯伊（Sebastian Coe）也寫信給IOC 委員長巴赫，不該拿運動員生命安全開玩笑，應該延期。直到深夜23點，五輪推進招致課課長鈴木知幸上了日テレ收視率最高的新聞節目NEWS ZERO ，在有働主播提問：「2020東京奧運如期舉辦的可能性」時，明確地表示：#如期舉辦可能性為零 之後，發言權立馬由地球另一邊的美國媒體 USA TODAY 接棒，在亞洲深夜此時刊出 IOC 最資深會員Dick Pound 的採訪。這是東京奧運在日本與IOC 的相關人員當中，#首度各自對媒體明確地表示東京奧運將不會在2020如期舉辦！Dick Pound 甚至更進一步表示已決定延期！
