🌟The Virtue:
Ibn Abbas (ra) said, "I did not see the Prophet (saw) as eager to fast a day, preferring it over others except for this day of Ashura and this month, meaning, the month of Ramadan." [al-Bukhari].

🌟Why we fast?
Ibn Abbas (ra) narrated, "The Messenger of Allah (saw) came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. The Prophet said, "What is this day you are fasting?" They said, “This is a great day in which Allah saved Musa and his people, and he drowned firawn and his people. Musa fasted on it due to gratitude, so we also fast on it.” The Prophet said, "We are more deserving and are closer to Musa than you." [al-Bukhari].

🌟When is it?
Ibn Abbas (ra) said, "The Messenger of Allah (saw) ordered fasting on the day of Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram." [al-Tirmidhi].

🌟The Reward:
The Prophet (saw) was asked about fasting the day of Ashura and he said, "It will expiate the sins of the past year." [Muslim].

🌟Along with the 10th, it is recommended to fast the 9th as well:
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "If I live until next year, I will certainly fast the ninth day of Muharram." [Muslim]
