看貝佐斯致亞馬遜股東的最後一封信，學一些英文寫作小撇步!

上禮拜4月 15 日，亞馬遜創辦人 Jeff Bezos 發表了他 CEO 任內最後一封致股東的信。 歷年來亞馬遜的 shareholder letters 都廣受好評，甚至被許多專家封為美國最會寫股東信的企業之一。

這封信到底寫多好？我們就一起來看看。

我們先看信的內容架構。大概只有五個部分而已：

1. 回顧：1997到今天，一路走來的成就
2. 價值：計算亞馬遜對社會各方創造的價值
3. 員工：亞馬遜其實對員工不錯，而且承諾未來會更好
4. 環境：亞馬遜對環境永續做的貢獻
5. 結語：世界要我們平凡，但我們要堅持獨特

這封信的內容架構簡單清晰，聚焦回應股東對亞馬遜的主要批評點。

🎯 針對「亞馬遜對世界是好是壞？」：貝佐斯列出公司對社會各界— 使用者、新創公司、小商家等等 — 所做出的貢獻。

🎯 針對「亞馬遜如何對待員工」：貝佐斯列舉證據，表示亞馬遜其實對員工不錯，但又反過來說：我們未來一定會做的更好！

🎯這兩個寫完，他又加碼闡述亞馬遜對環境永續的貢獻

這就是我們的第一個寫英文文章的重點：

✍️ I. Make it simple & focused

What are the top things your audience is thinking about? Focus on that. Don’t add a lot of other complicated stuff. Simplify and focus.

你的讀者心裡在想什麼？他們對你最大的質疑點有哪些？你的開頭就直接切入重點，回應他們的疑點。

寫英文 — 尤其商業英文 — 最重要的就是簡潔、明瞭、聚焦。

其實呢，我們從貝佐斯用的文字上也看得出來：好的英文是簡單到大部分的人都看得懂的，就像這一段：

If you want to be successful in business (in life, actually), you have to create more than you consume. Your goal should be to create value for everyone you interact with. Any business that doesn’t create value for those it touches, even if it appears successful on the surface, isn’t long for this world. It’s on the way out.

沒有什麼很艱澀，高學歷的人才會用的字。大部分都只有一個音節而已。可能只有 “isn't long for this world” 有些人會需要查 (就是不會活很久的意思)。

✍️ II. But… Be Conversational

但你有沒有注意到，內容有一點點重複？那一段的最後兩句：“isn’t long for this world” 跟 “It's on the way out” 根本是完全一樣的內容啊！這根本就跟英文寫作老師教我們的原則 — 可以刪的字就刪掉 — 相反對不對?

沒錯。因為這封信的語氣 (並非所有商業寫作)，就像是聊天一樣。我們在聊天的時候，是否會為了強調一個重點，用稍微不同的方式，重複同一件事？

所以呢，如果你想要寫出輕鬆一點的語氣，可以適當的「重複」。參考以下的兩種寫法：

•She is the corporate group’s top-ranked sales representative
•She’s by far our best sales rep, just insanely good. Like, nobody else comes close.

第二種比較浪費篇幅，但是否比較親切呢？

✍️ III. Make it about PEOPLE

當然，除了語氣之外，還有另一個層面非常重要 — 就是說「人」的故事。

貝佐斯在這封信放了非常，非常，非常多的數字：亞馬遜雇用130萬人、超過二億人使用 Prime 服務、近兩萬商家使用平台銷售、亞馬遜為股東創造出1.6兆美元的財富，等等等等的…

看了這些數字，你是否覺得有點無感？

貝佐斯也知道大家看了太多龐大的數字，會漸漸無感，所以他文字一轉，從冰冷的數字，進入到溫暖的故事：

...more than 7/8ths of the shares, representing $1.4 trillion of wealth creation, are owned by others. Who are they? They’re pension funds, universities, and 401(k)s, and they’re Mary and Larry, who sent me this note out of the blue just as I was sitting down to write this shareholder letter:

貝佐斯把焦點帶到一個散戶小股東家庭身上，並且用他們寫給他的一封信，來強調亞馬遜對「普羅大眾」的貢獻。這個很值得大家效法：別只是一味的丟出數據 (理性)，也要不時的回到「人」的故事 (感性)，才能打動別人。

他用的轉折也很值得學習：列出一個清單，但把你下一段要寫的焦點，放在清單的最後一個，如：

There are many ways to improve your life: eating better, sleeping more, worrying less, and saying NO.

然後轉換主題：說一個有關 saying no 的故事。

【もう、人として生きていくことはできない】

昨日、スタートしたクラウドファンディング「西野亮廣×鴨頭嘉人コラボ講演 ~夢とエンタメで世界を変えていこう~」が、プロジェクト立ち上げから７時間４４分で、目標金額の２０００万円を突破しました。

知らない方の為に、このプロジェクトの概要をあらためて御説明させていただきます。

こちらは、YouTube講演家の鴨頭嘉人さんとチーム鴨頭の皆さんが仕掛けてくださった、言わば「西野亮廣応援企画」でして……僕と鴨頭さんのコラボ講演を、なんと3週間後に東京国際フォーラムでおこなうのですが、なんとなんと、その収益を全額、映画『えんとつ町のプペル』のチケットの購入代金にあてて、そのチケットを子供達にプレゼントしてくださるというのです。
もう、とんでもない規模の支援なんです。



昨日は丸一日、映画のアフレコ収録がありまして、その合間合間でスマホをチラチラと見ながら、今回のクラファンの動きを追わせていただいたのですが……Twitterのタイムラインを見ると、チーム鴨頭の皆さんが一丸となって、「行け〜！」といった感じで、応援してくださっているんです。

もう一度言いますが、これは自分達の為にやっているわけではなくて、動機は「今回は西野亮廣を勝たせる」の一点なんです。


本当はお一人お一人に会いに行って、キチンを御礼しなきゃいけないところなのですが、映画制作が佳境に入っていて、今はどうしても現場を離れられなくて……なので心の中で「ありがとうございます」と言って、スマホを閉じ、また映画制作に戻りました。

今、チーム鴨頭の皆さんをはじめ、本当にたくさんの人が映画『えんとつ町のプペル』を、そして『西野亮廣』を応援してくださっています。

昨日もお話ししたのですが、今年は皆大変です。
１００年に一度のウイルスに襲われて、僕らは今日も溺れそうになりながら、その乗り越え方を探している。
皆、不安で不安で仕方ないと思うんです。
自分のことでやらなくちゃいけないことがまだまだある。

そんな中、僕の挑戦にその大切な時間を分けてくれて、「西野、頑張れ〜」と言ってくださっている。


本当に本当にありがたいし、罪深いなぁと思っています。


よく、映画制作の現場で、監督が怒鳴り散らしてたりするじゃないですか？
…というか、監督って、なんか怒ってますよね？　
前にある椅子を蹴ってるイメージありません（笑）？


僕、身体がナヨナヨしているので、怒鳴ったり、モノに当たったりしても似合わないから、ああいう表現はしないのですが、
あの「怒り」は、すごくよく分かります。

これは、映画に限らず、リーダーと呼ばれる人や、経営者もそうだと思います。

「怒鳴りちらすのは人としてどうなんだ？」という真っ当なご意見もありますが(超わかるよ！)、しかし一方で、リーダーは、この背景、このセリフ、この音楽、このワンシーンを存在させる為に、どれだけの人が動いてくださったか、そして、動いてくださった方々の顔かを常に想像しています。
その人達が、どれだけのものを犠牲にしてくれたかを知っているんです。

僕はありがたいことに「一緒に働きたい」という声をよくいただいて、それこそサロン内で学生インターンを募集すると、毎回、一瞬で数百人の応募がくるんです。

でも、彼らに、よく言うんです。

「その程度の覚悟なら、僕に近寄って来ないでくれ。そのペースで走りたいのであれば、僕の隣なんかよりも、もっともっと居心地の良い場所がある」

僕はあなたの首根っこを掴まえて、「僕の隣で働け」とは絶対に言わないんですね。
「他所でやります」と言われても、一切引きとめない。どうぞどうぞ。

ただ、あなたの意思で、「西野の隣で働く」というのであれば、覚悟は決めて欲しい。

１０００時間かけようが、それがツマラナイものであれば、僕は１秒でゴミ箱に捨てます。
恨むのなら、好きなだけ恨んでもらって構いません。
ただし、恨む相手を間違っちゃいけない。

ここは「これだけ頑張ったのに」が通用する世界じゃない。
一番悪いのは、１０００時間かけているのにツマラナイものしか作れない自分です。
「恨むなら、自分の弱さを恨め」といったところです。


時々、僕は、見る人が見れば「血も涙もないような判断」をする場合があります。

それこそ、「これ、デモなんですけど」といってあげてきてくださった時に、それが、たとえ完成度でいうと１０%程度であろうが、そこには、その人が今回の仕事にかけている想い・姿勢が全部出るじゃないですか。

そこで、流れ作業のようなものを出してこられる方とは、もっというと血の匂いがしない方とは、僕、二度と仕事をしないんです。
もう二度と会わない。

理由は、その人が可愛そうだから。
ここは、そんな人が生きられる世界じゃない。

そして、何より、この背景、このセリフ、この音楽、このワンシーンを存在させる為に、どれだけの人が動いて、どれだけのお金が動いて、どれだけ人が、ここに立ちたくても立てなかったを知っているからです。

応援されればされるほど、現場では人としていられなくなって、鬼みたいになっちゃうんですけど、でも、ここは、そういう世界なので、それでいいと思っています。


この話を聞いて、「上等じゃねぇか」という方がいらっしゃいましたら、株式会社NISHINOのインターンを受けるか、もしくは、ウチの若手社員やインターン生から話を聞いて見てください。

本気でエンタメをやる気があるのであれば、この上ない環境であることは間違いないです。

ただ、「同い年で、せめて日本一ぐらいはとっとけよ。みっともねぇな」という領域での打ち合いになるので、参加されるのであれば、それぐらいの感じでお願いします。

なんじゃかんじゃで、すっかり徹夜になっちゃったのですが、今日はスタートが早くて、これからもうアフレコ収録です。

【絕食第80日】【80th Day of Hunger Strike: Update & Volunteers' Thoughts】

▍「除了停止了探訪外，這裡任何東西都沒變過。廁所依然是那麼髒，他們（入境處）連一塊香皂都沒有多給我們。」- 羈留者O生氣的說

自9月6日CIC出現第二單新冠確診，CIC便停止了探訪，所有羈留者都已經十天因探訪暫停而無法獲得一些基本衛生護理物資。以下為義工H的心聲：

CIC對認可物資要求十分苛刻，書一定不要有任何標註，連一個「由XX中學圖書館捐贈」的印章也容不下，「呢本唔入得」；香皂只能是藍色的，但藥房通常是一排六塊的賣，只有兩塊是藍色，總有四塊紫色、白色不知如何處理；以為只要寫著「祝君早安」的毛巾便可以，買到了，職員又說「標誌中一的不是「合」字，這不是正版」，退回，不收；買了兩包M&M想給羈留者，但被告知一次一定要給5包，而且一定要是同一顏色的包裝。第一次聽到時會又生氣又無奈，明明都是香皂、毛巾，這些要求除了用來留難訪客，有任何意思嗎？每次探訪，更是總會見到其他訪客有一些東西因不乎要求而被退回，山長水遠走到來CIC，卻沒法送物資到親人、朋友手上，會感到很可惜嗎？

怒氣與無奈，隨著探訪次數漸多而慢慢地被磨蝕。為了能順利地把物資送到羈留者手上，更是練成了一對金精火眼，去到不同藥房都認得出物資，知道格價合理與否。這一陣子，見到任何藥房都會逛一逛，見到適合的便買下。這幾天都接給幾位羈留者的電話，有的說急需牙膏、香皂（只能通過探訪才能獲得），有的說很悶想收新的書。我想說，我都準備了，只是不知何時才見到他們。

羈留者的來電中，讓我除了知道他們需要的物資外，更是體會到自由對他們的迫切。「7樓的40多人全被送到隔離營了，你有他們的消息嗎？」S問。「我需要幫助。我不想繼續留在CIC，這裡有新冠病毒確診。這裡不安全。」R說。我想這次CIC這次確診引致的Lockdown和全院檢測已充份反映到這個地方十分高危，為何還是要強行把一班無罪的人拘禁，置他們的健康生命於危險中？

「我們差不多所有羈留人士已經聯名向入境處寫了一封投訴書，抗議停止探訪並要求交代原因。」O說。「希望很快可以容許探訪。」

▍“I am very angry about this lockdown. They (ImmD) did nothing more to advance any prevention or protection measures. Just lockdown. We are running out of toothpaste, soap and hand wash.” — Detainee I

Due to the discovery of the 2nd confirmed case of COVID-19 on 6th September, CIC has suspended all visit. All detainees have since been unable to receiving basic hygienic products from their visiting friends. It has been 10 days. Below are some thoughts of our volunteer H:

CIC is exceptionally meticulous, or better put, bureaucratic about the hand-in articles from visitors to detainees. A book must be totally clean, even a stamp that says “Donated by XX School Library” would made the book ineligible for handing in; The soap must be in blue, yet stores often sell this brand of soap in a pack of six, so volunteers would always be left with 4 bars of non-blue soap; when you bought the towel with the exact wording, the staff will always let you know that your towel is “knock-off” and therefore unaccepted; M&M must come in 5 packs of the same colour. When the articles I bought first got rejected by CIC officers, I was very frustrated. In terms of their function, the towels and soap I bought were just fine. And every time I visited, I always saw other visitors’ “unapproved” articles got rejected. Imagining coming all the way with the hope of giving a little something to make your detainee friend’s life slightly better, and yet got rejected for the bureaucratic instructions of CIC, would you feel upset?

Nevertheless, my angry and frustration has been numbed as I visited CIC more frequently. In order to successfully got the articles to detainees, I have become an expert. I have memorised the entire list of approved hand-in articles and know the prices for each item. And over time, I have stocked up these articles for the detainees. In the past few days, our concern group have received several calls from detainees, saying that they are lacking certain hygienic project. “We are running out of toothpaste, soap and hand wash.” they said. I would love to let them know that I have stocked up, yet I now have no idea when I can give things to them due to the lockdown in CIC.

From these calls from detainees, not only had I learnt about the certain items they need, but also what freedom meant to them. “40 detainees from 7/F have been sent to the isolation camp, do you have any news about them?”, detainee S asked me. “Actually I need help. I don’t want to stay long time in CIC. There is positive case here. CIC is not safe.” Detainee R said. I think the current lockdown of CIC have demonstrated exactly how CIC is not safe. There is a high risk for cross-infection of COVID-19 in CIC. So, why is the authority so determined to detain this group of innocent people, and put their health and lives in danger?

“Most detainees have wrote a complaint letter together to the Immigration Department against the lockdown and ask for reasons.” Said O. “Hope this complaint letter could help reopen visit soon.”

當你不被你的愛人認可，卻想要引起他的對你注意力，那就只能盡你所能展示你魅力了吧。
只有18歲的Lisa愛唱歌，寫歌，跳舞，Lisa寫這首歌時候是想運用阿拉伯曲風與西班牙風格組成混合，希望藉着異國風情的熱情舞曲展示出她對愛人的那份熱愛。
這曲寫給她的愛人，他會欣賞嗎？
可惜那時候那位愛人已經愛上了另一位女生，而他卻沒男子漢的擔當，不敢勇敢的承認。還取笑Lisa 為他寫的歌，說Lisa寫的歌詞沒意思而且還很搞笑，哈哈大笑地取笑Lisa。其實對Lisa是滿諷刺的，只是Lisa 放不下那段感情，畢竟那時候已經拍拖3年半，雖然感情上的分分合合，讓Lisa心靈有重重的挫敗感，但Lisa 根本不想放棄。
Lisa還是把滿滿的愛意寫給這位愛人。 打從心底希望愛人能夠欣賞。只可惜最後都是有緣無分。

這也是Lisa 專輯裡面唯一的一首英文歌曲。

Lisa's creative mind soul:
When you are not recognized by your lover, but want to attract his attention to you, then you can only show your charm as much as you can.
The 18-years-old Lisa loves to sing, write, and dance. When Lisa wrote this song, she wanted to use a mix of Arabic style and Spanish style, hoping to show her love for her lover through exotic passionate dance music.
Will this song be written to her lover?
Unfortunately, at that time, the lover had fallen in love with another girl, he did not have the responsibility of a man, and dared not to admit the relationship bravely. Also making fun of Lisa’s song for him, saying that Lisa’s lyrics are boring and funny, and do not make sense, and made fun of Lisa with a loud laughter.
In fact, Lisa is full of irony, but Lisa can't let go of that relationship. After all, she has been dating with him for 3 and a half years. Although the separations and combination of emotions made Lisa's heart frustrated as a teenager, true love is what she longs for. Lisa didn't want to give up at all.
Lisa still wrote a lot of love to this lover. From the bottom of her heart, She hope this lover can appreciate it. It's a pity that in the end they were all destined apart from each other.

This is the only English song on Lisa’s album.
