Teaching our Children
“Therefore you shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall write them on the door posts of your house, and on your gates; that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.” (Deuteronomy 11:18-21 WEB)
God wants us (parents) to teach our children. Nowadays there are many ways to outsource education, but we cannot leave our children completely in the hands of the secular education system.
The most important thing to teach our children from infancy is : God’s word. Teaching is not about seating them in front of a desk with a thick Bible and going through chapter by chapter.
Be led by the Holy Spirit, and whenever an appropriate teaching moment arises, use the chance to talk about Jesus and make the faith real and practical in your children’s lives.
For example, if your child fell down and scraped his knee, just comfort him and pray together, declaring that Jesus’ healing power is entering the wound to fix it.
Before each meal, thank Jesus for the food and declare it sanctified in Jesus’ name. Tell your children that the Lord is specially preparing the food to be clean, good, and healthy for them.
Whenever possible, quote portions of Scripture to etch it in your children’s hearts. “Wow look at all these gifts that we received! Praise Jesus—the Lord is truly our Shepherd, and we shall not lack!”
Teach them Gospel truths—what is applicable under the New Covenant of Grace. Definitely don’t make them recite or memorize the Ten Commandments of the Law.
The Gospel has a prospering effect. It has the power to save from every trouble. As a parent, and especially if you are a father, you are also entrusted with the role of leading your children in their spiritual growth.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 WEB)
By the leading of the Holy Spirit, build a strong foundation of faith for your children, and they will greatly benefit from it throughout their lives!
When I wrote the book “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever” the compiled truths within were designed for the whole family. It is so important that our children know from young that we do our best in life for the Lord’s sake, to worship Him, and that He is the one who will reward us. There is no need to live for the praise of men. This belief alone will save them from many disappointments and heartaches.
There are so many great lessons about eternal rewards in the book. I hope you can get it (either the eBook or a paperback copy) and share the truths with your children in a relatable way, after digesting the revelations yourself: http://bit.ly/sandcastlesdontlastforever

“Woman” was, in a nutshell, a beautiful film. I don’t say that lightly, and it’s not an adjective I use much. However, it’s the one word I found myself thinking and feeling over and over again during the 100 minutes of dazzling footage. Perhaps it’s the only coherent thought that emerges in the forefront of my brain after the intensity of the film.
Visually, the variety of women pictured is stunning. Nearly all the ways females can be classified are represented, in intense detail. I realized that before I never looked at people properly—-how different we are, how similar we are! The tableaus of different women’s lives was also enthralling. So much said in those few seconds. It reminded me of a scrap quilt; so many different prints, all beautiful in their own way, and seemingly so different; yet all together as one cohesive whole.
Is it an easy watch? It is, and it isn’t. It’s so intimate, and familiar—-you could be watching your friend, your relative, even yourself. And yet the topics are not always so comfortable. All the joy and pain of women’s identities are covered, from those wonderous moments of self-discovery, growth and love to those experiences of violence, trauma and oppression. Myriad topics are illuminated through a few sentences of a woman’s story; education, motherhood, child marriage, trafficking. It is not easy to handle. But as the women say again and again, “we are women, so we are strong.” Even after feeling these hundreds of stories in a short amount of time, we find that there is a greater force, able to contain all the sadness and pain, and even find space for compassion, love, joy and hope. As John Berryman put it in 77 Dream Songs, “Women is better, braver.”
For the record (and I spent awhile thinking about it): I am an inquisitive woman.

Everytime I drive around the southern tip of Taiwan and catch a glimpse of the pacific ocean at it’s bluest, it takes my breath away. What a wonderful and spectacular world we live on, full of vibrance and color. And under the water it gets more amazing still. Corals and Turtles and an amazing assortment of fish with bizarre habits and complex social and food-seeking behavior. It’s a whole new world under there.
Some of my greatest childhood memories are of playing in the ocean, and I think that playing in the ocean as a child helped me connect with it, and nature as a whole. It’s part of what shaped me into who I am today. Interactions with marine environments, and seeing how they’ve changed over the last 30 years has fueled my passion for environmentalism.
That’s why I am happy to work with Kenting Elementary School and the Ministry of Education to help encourage and inspire children (and their parents) to spend more time getting to know planet earth's greatest resource, largest playground, and most wondrous and mysterious ecosystem.
To know the ocean is to love the ocean. And that’s the first step in protecting it. The oceans have much to teach us.

Given the continued virulence of the virus, it is still unclear when is the reopening date for 2021. These decisions carry enormous social and economic implications and will have lasting effects on educators, on children and youth, on their parents – especially women – and indeed on societies as a whole.
My parent group chats is abuzz with these speculation – especially those who have been sending their kids to Kindergartens and/or private schools. With many losing jobs or getting huge pay cuts at work, the question on whether they can continue paying for their kids school education is on their minds. Pleas for rebates and discounts has been a continuous debate for most and even for us, while waiting for news from our school, we are now contemplating whether we should one, pull them out and try to apply for government schooling, two, homeschool and hire private tutors which is a bit more cost friendly or three “wait and see” method.
There are pros and cons for all these choices above, but at the end of the day, we want what’s best for the child. How are our children going to manage physically, emotionally and mentally with whatever decision we make?
What are the other possible solutions or options? Is there a possibility of hybrid learning and/or online schooling elsewhere that will be accepted by the school later on?
Joining me today is Dr Goh Chee Leong, CEO of R.E.A.L Education Group REAL Schools International & Private who is the perfect person to discuss this topic with. He is a consultant Psychologist for MENSA Malaysia and carries a wealth of experience in the education sector, and today, we will discuss these hot topics and how to prepare your child to thrive in this new world.

"My heart will go on" (Love Theme from Titanic) Performed by Riccardo Moratto/Rick
This is the second time I play the piano after many years.
When I was a child, I used to say my piano was my best and only friend. Growing up, I've had to focus on other things, but my best friend has always remained in my heart.
I love Titanic, especially the theme song from the motion picture: My Heart Will Go On. This is the second one of a series I will upload. I am NOT a professional pianist, but I love playing the piano with my whole heart.
Please forgive ANY imperfection. This piece of music is for personal use only. I do not own or hold any rights to the music used.
NO copyright infringement is intended.
This is a live, unedited version, recorded with a digital camera, however the in-and-out-of-focus effect is INTENDED, to give the whole piece an about-to-sink, ship-in-motion kind of effect :)
If you find it distracting, close your eyes and listen...
My Heart will Go On。
