Happy birthday, Singapore!

If we could have three wishes for you, it would be to stay "clean and green always", to have "no bad guys" and to "let peace and harmony prevail".

It's the long weekend and today's our nation's birthday! I decided to bring the girls out and let the boy enjoy some bonding time with Papa. Yup, while we emphasize on the family sticking together, it's also important to carve out one-on-one, or one-on-two, time so as to let the kids enjoy more of our undivided attention.

The girls and I had a blast at the martinee of The Aladdin Musical today and I can only say it truly let us enter a whole new world - one that is incredible, unique and awe-inspiring. From the spectacular backdrops and dazzling costumes to the amazing vocals and fun choreography, it was such a treat for us on our rare mum-and-daughters date.

I was initially thinking the girls would greatly enjoy this and even though they did, what was unexpected was that I ended up loving the show even more than them. I was so wowed at the glittery, shimmery Cave of Wonders scene and when the magic carpet started to rise among the twinkly stars before our eyes, I couldn't help getting teary while feeling the magic and childhood memories gushing in.

The girls loved Princess Jasmine most and I couldn't decide if I loved the Genie or Aladdin more because they were both so awesome - engaging, hilarious and simply top-notch! No wonder everyone's been raving about the show, it's definitely not to be missed and I would advise you getting stall seats because that's where you can get a good view of all the breathtaking sets and special effects.

The show runs till 1 Sept at Sands Theatre in MBS and it's the only stop in Asia. Get your tickets now before they run out! Thanks to @baseasia for having us today!

We had a one-on-one date last weekend because this girl deserved it and I much needed it.

I'm not proud to say it but after she came back from camp, we had a few heated arguments which saw us both lose our cool and she even said in a fit of anger that she wished she could go back to camp. Well, it was of course sad to hear that, just like how the kids tend to say "I don't like you" when they are boiling with anger inside. But I've learnt that they don't mean it in the least and they usually come to me after they calm down to let me know that they still ❤ me to the moon and back and they ❤ their family and home too.

I guess I also tend to say things that I don't mean much when I am mad, such as making negative comments or even comparisons, and it's a habit that I need to work on quitting because I've realised that our words have profound impact on the kids and they can hurt so much unknowingly. So yup, that's definitely a work in progress for me.

I'm not sure how things will slowly work out as she turns ten years of age this year, but we will just have to take a step at a time, fall and pick ourselves up together. I also need to remind myself to be patient, to listen and understand, and to always remind her that my love for her is unconditional.

She might be the big sister in the family but she is still my sweet baby in many ways, one who still loves to cuddle and hug me, who holds my hand when we are out, who writes sweet love notes just for me, who is proud to look like Mummy and who always thinks of saving the last chocolate for me (and refuses to let her siblings finish them up).

All the best for your oral exams, my dear, we did our best to practise and as long as you give it your best shot, that is always enough for me. Hope you will find my surprise good luck note in your wallet before your exams start and may it bring a smile on your face too! ❤😊

It was a simple breakfast date we had. We ate her favourite kaya toast and half boiled eggs, went shopping for a present for her and she was sweet to get something small for her siblings too, had fun at the outdoor playground before we decided it was too hot, then ended it off at the arcade where we shot balls at dinosaurs, played bowling, whacked moles and fished for sharks and stingrays.

I could see the joy in her eyes, I could feel her enthusiasm and it's plain to see how my secondborn really enjoyed her one-on-one time with Mama - something she has been deprived of since the baby brother came along and she was no longer the littlest in the family. It's true, as ironic as it sounds, I now realise that I have got to learn to better let go so as to forge closer bonds with each of my kids (more heartfelt thoughts on letting go on the blog).

I hope this middle child of mine knows how much she is loved, how special she is to me and never for a moment feel that she is left out. Looking forward to more mother-and-daughter dates with this cutie pie who has the most infectious laugh and never fails to cheer up my day.
