This Informal Retreat has been called to discuss how Asia-Pacific can collaborate to move through the COVID health crisis, and to accelerate the post-COVID economic recovery. Chinese Taipei will address these two topics specifically.
On COVID-19, Chinese Taipei has had an excellent record so far. With a population of 23 million, over the last year and half, and in spite of a recent surge which has now abated, we have had a total of about fifteen thousand infected cases (.07% of the population), and 763 deaths (3 out of one hundred thousand).
We believe that our experience and know-how gained can help other APEC members. We have been, and continue to be willing to help. We have donated masks and other medical supplies to other APEC members in the past and are ready and willing to share our anti-COVID-19 know-how with you.
At the same time, WE NEED HELP! Our vaccination coverage at present is less than 20%. Although the U.S. and Japan have been generous in donating vaccines to us, and our private institutions have succeeded in procuring ten million doses of vaccines, we still need more vaccines, and need them sooner! Most other APEC members need help as well. We must ask for help from the APEC members that possess and produce more vaccines than they themselves need.
On re-vitalizing Post-COVID economy, Chinese Taipei urges free trade among APEC members and in the world, after giving consideration to vital national security needs.
In the past seven decades, free trade has enabled vibrant growth in most APEC economies. Free trade is merely a way in which each APEC economy contributes its own competitive advantage and every APEC member benefits.
Recently, however, we note with concern the tendency to want self-sufficiency or “on-shoring” of semiconductor chips. We must point out that in the past many decades free trade has greatly helped the advance of semiconductor technology. In turn, the ever greater complexity of the technology has caused the supply chain to go “off-shore”.
It would be highly impractical to try to turn back the clock. If it is tried, cost will go up and technology advance may slow. What may happen is that after hundreds of billions and many years have been spent, the result will still be a not-quite-self-sufficient, and high-cost supply chain.
We do recognize national security concerns, and believe that for security applications, a self-sufficient supply chain within one’s own borders is prudent. However, for the much larger civilian market, a supply chain substantially based on free trade system is by far the best approach.
In summary, on COVID-19, Chinese Taipei can help, is ready and willing to help with its know-how, but also needs more vaccines sooner, along with many other APEC members. On Post-COVID economic re-vitalization, Chinese Taipei urges free trade, after giving consideration to vital national security concerns.

分享《The System: Soviet Periodization Adapted for the American Strength Coach》書中對奧林匹克式舉重的看法。

THE OLYMPIC LIFTING CONTROVERSY
In recent years with the increasing emphasis on safety in strength training and what is termed “sport specific” training, the Olympic lifts have fallen out of favor with many strength coaches. The argument is that if you are not competing in Olympic lifting, there are better options for training explosive strength that translate more readily to sports performance, without the risks and strain inherent in rapidly moving heavy weights.
Variations of medicine ball throws or more creative exercises have taken the place of cleans, snatches, and jerks in the strength programming of many teams as coaches try to reduce those risks. In our opinion, the pendulum has swung too far away from using the movements that have consistently produced the strongest and most explosive athletes in the world.
The main goal of the Olympic lifts is to generate maximal power and explosive strength in the entire body through large ranges of motion, particularly for the lower extremities.
The differences you will most often find between the training regimen of an Olympic weightlifter and of athletes performing more “sport specific” training are that weightlifters consistently take the lower extremities through high-speed, large range-of-motion exercises. Many of the substituted movements and exercises used by a well-intentioned strength coach do not come close to demanding and developing the flexibility, coordination, and force output demanded by the weightlifting exercises.
It is true that subjecting an athlete to a full snatch or jerk with a substantial amount of weight without the proper instruction or progression will often result in injury. However, that holds true for any exercise. It is not the fault of the exercise, but rather the coach’s fault for failing to prepare the athlete to succeed.
Dynamic sports like football or basketball require suppleness and strength expressed through large ranges of motion; the Olympic lifts are more effective at facilitating those qualities than a medicine ball toss. If you assess an athlete to be physically capable of performing the movements safely and if the lifts are programmed and coached effectively and progressed in both weight and complexity, many concerns diminish.
You will discover that when implemented effectively and appropriately, the benefits of the Olympic lifts far outweigh the drawbacks.
A significantly high volume of Olympic lifting is best left to the athletes with at least a few years of training under their belts. For developing athletes such as these, the power and explosive qualities can be addressed through jumping or plyometric training as the Olympic lifts are coached and refined over time.
After mastering technical efficiency and form, no matter what the movement, speed should always be the priority. Although strength and muscle hypertrophy are important in the world of sports, the rapid expression of that strength is what separates athletes on the field of play.
In the sport of powerlifting, the speed of the movement is not critical. The goal is to lift the maximum weight, however long it takes. On the football field, the strongest linemen will rarely succeed if they cannot rapidly translate that strength to control an oncoming defender. A shot putter who can military press hundreds of pounds will not take home a medal without the ability to explosively accelerate the entire body to throw the shot.

Euro Trip 2018 - FULL PLAYLIST: https://bit.ly/2mtyr3P

Hey, guys. It's good to see you all back for part 5 of the vlogging series - Euro Trip 2018. That means that this series ain't so shite! Continuing our stay in Barcelona, we're visiting some of the most iconic tourist attractions of this city in this part of the series.
Firstly, we headed off to Sagrada Familia - the Roman Catholic church, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. I'm definitely not a church person but I have to say Sagrada Familia struck me as something different altogether. Both the external and interior design of the building were breath-taking, with details you just don't see in any other European churches. It was a shame that the lift broke down for the tower we were supposed to be going up to but hey... it's fine - Roasted Duck acted as my eyes for any skyline views during the trip.
Then, we headed off to Casa Batllo. Hmmm, as you can see from the video, I personally didn't enjoy this place. I'm not an architecture kind of person and definitely not very artsy myself. What I showed in the vlog was a genuine depiction of how tourists would generally react to a place like this - with a diverse point of view on the building and story behind it. I guess it really ultimately depends on your background, experience, and areas of interest. And this was certainly not something for me.
Lastly, we ended the day with some amazing flamenco dance experience. Now this is my thing. With a background in dancing and performing arts, I could really appreciate the complexity of the routine and the amount of effort you need to put into preparation and performance in order to bring about such a captivating performance. Having already shared my feedback in the vlog, ultimately I was still very much content with the whole show.
That essentially wrapped up our second and also last day in Barcelona. Although we went to a couple of other places (e.g. Park Guell, restaurants, shopping centres etc.), I decided not to include everything since I don't want to present a laundry list of things we did here. Hope to see you all next time as we set foot on one of the most anticipated places of the vlogging series - Santorini! ?✈️?

Recipe at: http://www.themeatmen.sg/pan-fried-tofu-with-korean-sauce
Our mouthwatering Pan-fried Tofu with Korean sauce is astonishingly easy to make, is chock full of flavour yet barely registers on the calorie count - just in time to rescue you from those festive indulgences!
The tofu is first cut into succulent slabs and seared to a crispy golden brown. For our recipe, we highly recommend using Vitasoy Organic Sprouted Pressed Tofu so you get that perfect crust on the outside and firm smoothness inside without much handling thanks to the Nigiri-seawater extracts. It also has 25% higher calcium content than the average bear, which you can benefit from.
To go along with the tofu, we made a mild & tangy Korean Sauce combining several choice condiments. You’ll be amazed at how simple they are, yet how well they work together - The minced garlic and spring onions lift the sauce, the sesame oil and soy sauce lend a fine aromatic complexity. Gochugaru red pepper zings with its spicy, sweet and smoky vibrancy, the toast sesame seeds add a nutty overlay and the anchovy dashi powder brings a robustness that pulls the sauce together. Add a touch of sugar for a hint of sweetness, and our sauce is good to go!
Spoon generously over the tofu and serve up nice and hot. A delicious delight for two that you can enjoy while keeping the bad drama out of your house while you catch all the good drama on your TV screens.
