I recall a time when we reached for pencils and pens.
I recall a time when, by picking up these writing utensils with our hands and maneuvering them on notebook paper, the creative muscle juices in our hearts and minds were awakened to roam as they pleased.
I remember a time when we had the blessing of naturally working things out in our own minds, as opposed to relying on Mr. Goo to finish constructing trains of thought and sentences for us.
I remember a time when screens did not have power over our attention.
I remember a time when we looked where we were going while walking on and across the street.
I recall a time when we read things that did not incidentally harm our eyes. (Computer vision syndrome)
I recall a time when our lines of sight were directed more at people and not the devices in our hands.
I recall a time when we were more adept at carrying on meaningful, deep conversations.
I recall a time when more than a couple sentences were exchanged between loved ones at the dinner table.
I remember a time when people smiled at each other more and not at non-breathing objects.
I recall a time when the anticipation of hearing our home phones ring was a major highlight of the day.
I remember a time when this type of anticipation taught us patience, and that good things are worth waiting for. #.

During this time, many people feel deflated. However, does this mean that you have to act deflated? Try to look at things from different perspectives. The extra time you felt you didn’t have before is now abundant. Time is valuable. What can you do with surplus of time? Are there interests and hobbies of yours of which you had trouble pursuing before? Are there health and wellness goals you can work toward now? Are there certain energy sapping foods-and even people-that you can reconsider? What about relationships with others? Can you place a little more focus on building bonds with friends, family, and other loved ones?
It’s all about the questions we ask ourselves; our internal dialogue, so to speak. Would you prefer to have a very low happiness threshold or a high one? Having a high happiness standard entails that it takes more for you become happy. Note that happiness does not equal satisfaction. You can be happy without being satisfied.
There’s beauty in engaging in a struggle. The struggle we face is not the enemy. Closing oneself off certainly is not the answer. Embrace the fear of the unknowables.
